A former state senator from Canton Township wants the 11th Congressional District seat currently belonging to Republican Thaddeus McCotter.

Republican Loren Bennett tells the Detroit Free Press Friday that he is planning to run as a write-in candidate. He was in the Michigan Senate from 1995 to 2002.

Loren Bennett is a former two-term state Senator from a Democrat-voting district, the majority of which is in another Congressional district. He was elected in 1994, reelected in 1998, and was the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor in 2002 and hasn’t run for anything since. Perhaps a Michigan Freeper could tell us about his views.

Some are talking about Andrew Raczkowski also waging a wtite-in campaign, but how many people can spell his name?

The real story that is being ignored by the media is that Cong. Thad McCotter, a Conservative Republican, has had to drop out due to a problem with his signatures to get on the ballot. Over 1800 of the 2000 submitted signatures were deemed as ineligible or fraudulent. The Michigan Atty. General and Secretary of State are investigating how this could possibly happen. McCotter has stated that he basically used the same people to assemble his petitions as he did previously. I smell a “Rat”.

There is definitely something foul about the deal with McCotter, fortunately our AG takes it seriously.

If both Bennett and Rocky run as write-ins, Bentivolio will likely win by default. If just one of them runs, it should be a very competitive primary.

As for Rocky Raczkowski’s exceedingly difficult surname, that ‘s the first thing of which I thought. Even though MI election officials have said that misspellings of surnames count so long as the voter’s intent is clear, my concern is that some people will decide not to write-in Raczkowski for fear of misspelling the name. If Rocky were to run as a write-in, he should seek a ruling from the Secretary of State that votes for “Rocky” will count towards Raczkowski’s total.

The only portion of Bennett’s district in the 11th is Canton. He’d be a good candidate from the old 11th which has some of the blue areas in his old district. He was the Lt Governor candidate for Dick Posthumus in 2002.

He was most known for being the republican with the most democrat district, winning in the 1994 and 1998 wave elections. 98 was a wave thanks to Fieger.

If I'm Rocky's attorney, I would make that argument. He's been known as Rocky since before he changed his middle name. More people call him Rocky than Andrew.

But will Rocky or Bennett get the 30k write-ins required just to have any chance whatsoever? I don't see it, despite Rocky being a tough campaigner.

I think either Rocky or Bennett might get 30,000 write-ins in the primary, but if they both run neither one will get more votes than Bentivolio.

So, if McCotter is made ineligible by a “fraud” in the voter signatures collected on his behalf (whether he was or was not part of that “fraud”)

then, instead of running as the “official GOP” candidate,

cannot he too run as a “write-in” candidate?

If McCotter ran as a write-in in the general election, with another Republican as the party nominee, the Democrat nominee would win.

McCotter was considering running as a write-in in the GOP primary, and I think he would have won had he done so, but he decided not to run.

Wow, McCotter must not care much about serving in Congress to so readily bow out when he could win as a write in. Perhaps that's why he launched his long shot POTUS bid in the first place. Too bad. Very strange happenings. Future for him? Senate bid in 2014? Romney cabinet? Private Sector?

Darren McCarty: I believe Rocky is from Farmington Hills which is in the 14th district.

You don't have to live in the district. Whether you *should* or not is another question but personally I never gave a damn about that.

The important thing now is keeping that Muslim democrat out. (If the Laroohie sneaks in and wins rat primary we can celebrate holding the seat)

“Very strange happenings.”

I heard him on the Howie Carr show and he seemed to be a very well-spoken and grounded guy.

WTF is he doing?

Kerry Bentivolo would have a shot at winning the general election if he were the nominee, thanks in part to weak Democrat competition. But Bentivolo could count on the support of Ron Paul and his organiztion.

Kerry Bentivolo is not a Paulite, but rather a tea party supporter.
