Today's manifestation (or infestation) of American liberalism didn't exist forty-fifty years ago. The modern mindset of liberalism that you can spend what you don't have with no ramifications down the line started with the LBJ admin, but those were in times of a growing economy. Even so, they didn't waste the money like they do today. In those days, you could make libs somewhat aware and careful of their dizzy spending plans if not ashamed of them.

Not so today. Today libs blithely spend trillions and shrug their shoulders demanding we throw trillions more down lib ratholes. What should be common sense, don't go deep into debt, is seen as a sign of reactionary stone age troglodytes who don't care about the poor and the dispossessed. Wisconsin finally turned to common sense in 2010 and again last Tuesday. Maybe there is hope for this country after all.
