Romney IS a career politician, not only does he have two decades of running for office, and a life in family politics, having literally been on the floor during the 1964 convention, but he was supporting democrats in multiple states, and even doing democrat fund raising, before he returned to the GOP which he renounced and left in 1979 because of Reagan.
He denies on video being a Reagan supporter, he campaigned on it, he despised conservatism, he was against the Contract with America he even addressed the Senate, quote “”I’m not a partisan politician,” he said in an interview with The Post that fall. “My hope is that, after this election, it will be the moderates of both parties who will control the Senate, not the Jesse Helmses.”
Romney never “converted” at almost age 60, he merely switched to a national campaign.
