Steve Schmidt: Mike Huckabee could have been nominee (Rest of the story even funnier!)

This year’s cast of GOP convention speakers could be future rivals, each jockeying for prime positioning in case 2016 opens up, Republican strategist Steve Schmidt said on MSNBC Monday night.

The emerging five: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Rep. Paul Ryan.

“All of these people in their own right are people who may have presidential aspirations and the ability to run a formidable campaign,” he said. “You maybe see the next generation of rivalries in the Republican Party.… You may see them all previewing what’s going to be many, many years of history to unfold in front of us.”

And if presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney loses, Schmidt said there will be an internal debate within the party about where it is headed....

I’ve suspected for a long time Steve Schmidt is a deep cover infiltrator.

Now if he said, Huckabee was thinking of eating the 2016 convention, he might be on to something.

I know Mitt wasn’t the first choice for a lot of us (or second, or third) but I sure as Hell would have voted for him over Nanny Huckabee. If Huckabee had won, we’d be in for four years of Christian Socialism — a Republican version of Jimmy Carter — which would result in a Dem Congress and a Dem president 4 years from now.

There are people who believe Huckaphoney is a conservative in spite of his record.

If Mexico and illegals have a better friend inside the United States, I don’t know who that would be.

Huckabee could have been the nominee this time.

After all the other "anybody but Romney" candidates fizzled, he'd have been the one left standing.

Those who hated Romney enough would have to look seriously at Huck, and with evangelical support as well, he'd have put in a very respectable showing in the primaries.

But four years from now, he'll look pretty stale and tired -- far past his political sell-by date.

The violent criminals that Huckabee let out early, and the specific case that resulted in that multiple murder up in Washington state would have destroyed any slight chance for Huckabee to get the nomination. His history of putting out the welcome-mat and encouraging illegals to come to Arkansas hardly would have helped either.

Schmidt is a moron. (besides being a backstabbing POS)

It is a close call between those two. Both are pro-criminal.

Schmidt and Rove should open a ‘gay friendly’ bed and breakfast in Vermont and leave the rest of us alone...

His support for amnesty, his ethical problems (he even tried to steal the furniture when he left office) and his tax hikes would have sunk him. Tax Hike Mike would never be nominated.

Huck, please go away and stay away. Blasts from 2008 ...

The direction Governor Huckabee would take us in … liberal economic policies … liberal foreign policies … taxpayer funded programs for illegals … that’s not the model of the Reagan coalition, that’s the model of the democratic party.

“Republican strategist Steve Schmidt said on MSNBC Monday night.”

“Republican strategist” + “MSNBC” = out of work RINO

so, he’s no authority, nothing to see here, move on
