WILLIAMS: [Obama and the Democrats] Running scared
The Washington Times ^ | September 2, 2012 | Armstrong Williams

After a well-executed Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., it is now time for the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

The Democrats already are responding to the Republican convention and changing their speaker lineup. According to Donovan Slack of Politico, the Democrats are adding women and minorities to their roster, which I take to mean that the Republican convention was effective. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s speech was presidential — it wouldn’t be hard to imagine her giving that if she were the nominee. Just as stirring was that of Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida. Some left-wing critics noted that the RNC stage was more diverse than the RNC delegation; I ask, would you prefer it the other way around?

I’m afraid that that’s the case with the Democratic National Convention. As political blogger Matt Yglesias tweeted, “DNC lineup exaggerates whiteness of the party relative to its actual voting base.”

One good way to judge the confidence of a campaign is to note how often it uses ad hominem attacks. The more ad hominems, the less confident they must be.

The Democrats’s schedule of speakers is interesting. Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker is scheduled to speak on the first day of the convention. I will be interested to see the reaction to his speech, because Mr. Booker reminds me a lot of a younger President Obama. He is young, black and at least pays lip service to healing the partisan divide in this country. His speech will be a test of whether the country is jaded with this sanctimony yet.

Former President Jimmy Carter, to whom Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney subtly compared Mr. Obama during his acceptance speech, will not be present. Neither, tellingly, will Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton...

This year the Republicans got former Democratic congressman Artur Davis of Alabama, and the Democrats have former Florida Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, who is much better than Mr. Davis.

Charlie Crist is in no way better than Artur Davis. Davis was a true-believer democrat who became disillusioned by the failures of the Obama administration. Crist is a pure, out-for-himself politician of no particular stripe who will dock his boat in whichever political camp he feels will advance his own agenda.

The good news is there is still time for Obma to see the Light.

Yeah. And there is still time for my wife to let me have a hot 30 year old live in mistress. Which, in terms of the odds, is more likely than the Kenyan having an epiphany.

His boat isn't the only thing he will dock anywhere it will be accepted.

Saul was a ruthless tax collector before the Lord sruck him blind on the road to Damascus. Who knows what the Lord will have to do get Obama’s artention? Miracles happen on a daily basis, but most people do not realize it. The miracle was that a treacherous Saul turned into Paul, who hgave the world he prolific testimony of Jesus Christ in the Holy bible.

Look, we have to run against Obama, dem paid trolls, the suck-up press that’s in the tank for dems, all Newspapers but one, all TV Networks, all schools of journalism, all of Hollywood with the exception of 6 people, every cable network except one... you get the idea, right This ain’t gonna be easy. Dems work it like a street gang - 20 to 1 are the odds they like...

Matthew was the tax collector, not Saul. Saul was a tentmaker by trade and a Pharisee by training. I don’t think any Pharisee would have lowered himself to collect taxes for the hated Roman occupiers. (Whenever tax collectors are mentioned, it’s clear they are considered scum.)

Not a big deal. We all make little mistakes like that. 99% of what's in the New Testament about St. Paul is about after his conversion--his prior life gets very little attention.

St. Peter did some free-lance tax-collecting on behalf of himself and Jesus (see Matthew 17.24-27: St. Peter catches a fish and finds a stater in its mouth with which to pay the two-drachma temple tax)
