Colin Powell Rips Sarah Palin, Others for Racism Within GOP (Watch)
EURWeb ^ | January 14, 2013

*Colin Powell went in on his own Republican Party during an interview on “Meet the Press” Sunday, calling out some “former governors” as using racist statements to describe President Obama and noting that there is a “dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party.”

“What do I mean by that?,” he explained. “What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities.”

Powell specifically pointed to October 2012 comments by former Alaska Gov. and Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin on the attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

“When I see a former governor say that the president is ‘shuckin’ and jivin’ — that’s a racial-era slave term,” Powell said, referring to Palin’s words on Obama’s response.

He also brought up another “former governor” who described President Obama’s as “lazy” during his first 2012 presidential campaign debate with Mitt Romney. Powell told host David Gregory that the word “may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African Americans, the second word is ‘shiftless’ and then there’s a third word that goes along with it,” when racists describe African Americans.

Powell added that Republicans had become too preoccupied with the candidate-selection process, losing sight of the group’s overall message.

“You’ve got to think first about what’s the party actually going to represent,” Powell said. “If it’s just going to represent the far right wing of the political spectrum, I think the party is in difficulty. I’m a moderate, but I’m still a Republican.” [Watch below.]

Powell was the first African American to fill the role of Secretary Of State, serving under President George W. Bush from 2001-05. Despite maintaining his allegiance to the Republican Party, Powell has been an ardent supporter for President Barack Obama...

"FU Collin Powell. See, I once supported you. Even stupidly worked on getting you nominated for President. I now despise you. You know what, you racist piece of sh#t? Your skin color did not change between then and now. And neither did my complete disregard about your melanin content. But you did. Or rather you came out of the closest as a statist scumbag. Get it, Collon? Probably not, because you are — and probably always have been — a racist piece of sh#t. I am ashamed that I did not spot that far earlier.

There never was any evidence that Powell was Conservative. Many in the GOP supported him simply because he was a black man. They are just as racist as Colin Powell in my opinion.

Did not serve under him at the time but I’ve met some who did, they said the same thing.

For the record, there was nothing remotely racist in my use of the phrase "shuck and jive" – a phrase which many people have used, including Chris Matthews, Andrew Cuomo, and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to name a few off the top of my head. In fact, Andrew Cuomo also used the phrase in reference to Barack Obama, and the fact that Mr. Cuomo and I used the phrase in relation to President Obama signifies nothing out of the ordinary. I would have used the exact same expression if I had been writing about President Carter, whose foreign policy rivaled Obama’s in its ineptitude, or about the Nixon administration, which was also famously rocked by a cover-up.

I’ve been known to use the phrase most often when chastising my daughter Piper to stop procrastinating and do her homework. As she is part Yup’ik Eskimo, I’m not sure if this term would be deemed offensive when it’s directed at her or if it would be considered benign as in the case of Chris Matthews’ use of it in reference to Rachel Maddow. Just to be careful, from now on I’ll avoid using it with Piper, and I would appreciate it if the media refrained from using words and phrases like igloo, Eskimo Pie, and “when hell freezes over,” as they might be considered offensive by my extended Alaska Native family.

The outrageously outraged reaction to this expression from perennial hypocrites like Chris Matthews has only made me laugh. Mr. Matthews, let me share with you my favorite Irish toast: “May we always be happy, and may our enemies always know it.”

Why did the Dems feel the need to drag out Conlin Vowel anyway? Just to beat up on Republicans in the gun control debate...seems a waste of time?

I would like republican Freepers to explain why they insist on being associated with the republican party whose majority is occupied by these asshole rino prix like Powell?

Why? The party is useless.

...noting that there is a “dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party.”

This statement itself is racist, along with terms like "blackmail" and "black sheep". Colon Bowel, you are a hypocrite.

We need to be careful of the language we use as it is twisted by the media

Yes Sired Bob, (from shellfish country AKA Florida), but there is also shucking oysters, Mmmmm! I’ve done both.
Problem with Powell is he never had to do either, hence, he is shucking(verb) everyone about racism and Governor Palin!
Corn shucks and oyster shells have many uses. Powell once he left the Army he was of less use than a corn shuck!
Shucks, I kid you not. :^}

Colin there is an old saying “when you find yourself in a hole stop digging”. You might also want to go back to your history books and research why the Republican Party was founded.

“well, in one way he is (flame suit on) right — one way. We need to be careful of the language we use as it is twisted by the media”

No, that is exactly what the enemedia wants is to muzzle the language “we” use. If anything, we need to be more brazen and combative, not bashful about the language we choose. When confronted with accusations of the “race card” we should say “shuck and jive” is a cultural reference not a racial reference, and “perhaps I should be clear that I meant lying, deceitful and purposefully dishonest”.

Gen. Colin Powell was the basis for the near-to-life character in “Mars Attack!”

His rise within the ranks, was a blueprint of affirmative actions at work within the military, during the time when the military had been starting a “human relations” program.

Now, Mr. Powell is doing his best to “earn his street creds from the brothers”.

When attempting to describe someone who doesn't work hard and whose skin color is black, what does the Powell Style Guide say is the preferred word to use?

"Obama".

Oh, wait... that's my style guide...

This is exactly why affirmative action does not work. All AA does is create a cancer within any organization due to the self-loathing of the beneficiaries.

The irony is really, really thick. Picked by a Republican President to be the first black Secretary of State in American history, and solicited by many within the GOP to run for the Presidency, he now accuses the GOP of racism - all the while he exhibits unyielding support for Obama - primarily it seems because of Obama’s skin color.

And don't forget Obama's lily-white 2nd term cabinet.

It appears that no amount of “affirmative action” will ever heal the injury that certain minorities seem to feel deep down to the bone. - Yep. Powell & Christie might as well make it official and acknowledge their Democrat Socialist realities.
