Chicago Alderman: Put GPS Tracking Devices On All Guns
Breitbart TV / CBS ^ | January 18, 2013

CHICAGO (CBS) – A South Side alderman is asking for City Council hearings on an unorthodox gun control measure that would allow for GPS tracking of firearms. WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports Ald. Willie Cochran (20th), a former police officer, has suggested that global positioning system chips be embedded in new guns, and retrofitted on existing firearms, so they could be located if they go missing.

“Just like if your car gets stolen, OnStar can tell you where your car is. If your gun gets stolen, and you report it, we should be able to find that gun,” he said.

Cochran has introduced a resolution asking the Committee on Public Safety to hold hearings to receive testimony on the matter. A Massachusetts state senator from Boston has been pushing a similar measure in that state. Cochran acknowledged it might be expensive to install GPS chips on current and future firearms, but not as expensive as the cost of gun violence to society.

“Let’s measure what it costs in hospital costs, lost wages, deaths,” he said.

As for the privacy of gun owners who could be tracked with the GPS chips in their guns, Cochran said, “safety is … a much more important issue than is privacy.” (continued)

That’s what I’m thinking. Wearing a blaze orange suit, and a GPS ankle bracelet tracker beacon that shows up on everybody’s TV.

Had been tried before:

They are trying to marginalize gun owners; once that is achieved they can be declared "unamerican" and subjected to whatever treatment the all-merciful King of the USA selects for them. Care to guess who wrote the book on these tactics?

How about putting a GPS on every convicted violent felon, juvenile or adult?

Those devices already exist and are called Obamaphones. A chemical analysis sensor should be added to them.

These people are our servants. Lets put GPS on them, so we can monitor our investments.

No, I wasn't clear, we were referring to the elected congress critters as the only ones with teh trackers, so their constituents would know where to find them all the time.

The other scapegoating, yes, that's coming over the horizon, big and ugly.

Great idea, that way we would know exactly where the gang memebers are and the police can go round them up quietly, without a single gun shot.

Or Great Idea, I am sure that every gang member who owns a gun will go right out and get it tagged.

Is the sarcasm tag really needed?

I’ve said for months that Baraq and WithHolder need to schedule the first ATF weapons roundup in Chicago in summer 2013.

GPS requires power to run. Are they going to require that I keep my gun recharged? Even if the electronics weren't easily removed or destroyed (ha!), all a gun thief would have to do is stick the gun in a metal box for a week or so to wait for the battery to die and no GPS.

The reason why something like Lojack works on a car is that it is difficult to remove and the car must be powered to operate. Not so with a gun.

lol, it would be tough to move out of Chicago for only one reason, my family. But, with the way things are going and seeing that I’m still young and not married I may have to make a decision soon.

Guess this is why he is a FORMER Police Officer. To stupid to be one. Can’t possibly beleive that a CRIMINAL that would STEAL a gun would VIOLATE the law by REMOVING the GPS set up.............
