GOP Lawmakers Hope to Combat Ammunition Stockpiling by Gov’t Agencies With AMMO Act

Republicans in the Senate and House are expected to introduce a joint bill Friday that would limit the amount of ammunition that federal agencies are allowed to buy and stockpile over the next six months, the Washington Free Beacon reports.

The bill, titled the Ammunition Management for More Accountability or “AMMO” Act, is being proposed after several lawmakers have voiced concerns about some federal agencies, like the Department of Homeland Security, seemingly stockpiling large quantities of ammo.

“DHS, for instance, has placed two-years worth of ammunition, or nearly 247 million rounds, in its inventory,” the Free Beacon notes.

In a statement provided to the Washington Free Beacon, one of the bill’s co-sponsors, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), said federal agencies must provide more “transparency and accountability” in regards to its “stockpiles of ammunition.”

“President Obama has been adamant about curbing law-abiding Americans’ access and opportunities to exercise their Second Amendment rights…One way the Obama administration is able to do this is by limiting what’s available in the market with federal agencies purchasing unnecessary stockpiles of ammunition,” the statement adds.....

Actually Bush’s fault.

I wonder if he has any shame for creating DHS.

DHS, creepy unAmerican Nazi sounding name. The same number of people as the USMC, and twice the budget. And aimed squarely at all of us non-Obama types.

“DHS needs to be gotten rid of.”

Exactly. Don’t defund their ammo purchases. Defund THE ENTIRE AGENCY.

Thank you for protecting us from more terror attacks during your presidency, G.W. Bush. However, most of what you did SUCKS! Because of what you did we got owebama and the destruction of the USA.

Have a nice life, arsehole!

Oh woe is me, I voted for him twice. What other choice did we have?

The ammo makers say that they can’t keep up with demand. I haven’t seen ammo on the shelves in any Walmart I’ve been in, since Sandy Hook. What used to sell for about .18/round is now about $1.25/round.

DHS says they’re not stockpiling and that the orders are projected over 5 years. And are being done to lock in low prices. Have they used that method in the past?

The government has been adding armed LEO’s ever since 9/11 and there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. One of the biggest problems is that the general public drastically overestimates the abilities of the people holding the majority of those positions. To their own detriment. See....Watertown, Mass

But, I think the easiest way to clarify the whole thing would be to go to the ammo manufacturers and track their shipments. If they’re supplying DHS or anyone else, then I would think that they would be required to produce documents. Because its obvious that we’re not going to get a straight answer our of Napolitano or anyone else. If they clam up or DHS steps in, then that would be a pretty good indicator that they’re full of S**T.

I think his greatest failure was not giving us a viable candidate in the V-P position. I love Cheney. But he should have bowed out second term and taken Chief of Staff position (use the health card). We needed a strong Veep to run and we did not have anyone. I would have run over people to vote Dick Cheney. McCain. Bah!! We flailed around during the primaries and beyond. Too bad.

My Wal-Mart guys here say you have to show up at 7:00 AM for the 7:15 AM delivery or you’re SOL. I don’t have the money for ammo, so it’s mox nix for me.

I frequent 2 of them. One has taken their ammo case out. The other has had the same 10 boxes(off calibers) of ammo on the shelf since December. Not even .22

What I don’t understand is why don’t the dumbasses in Walmart’s inventory forecasting take a closer look at their turnover rates on ammo and finally figure out they have way to hell more demand than they are supplying ammo and adjust their stock to the stores accordingly............unless..........the powers that be at corporate in Batesville are intentionally engaging in rationing and controlling it at the corporate level.

Walmart’s ammo policies.....whatever the hell they really are.......haven’t really impacted me because I made a decision a few years ago to never buy from them. All their stores around here have the ammo locked up in glass cases. No clerk is ever anywhere around to be found nearby to get said case unlocked. As a result, it’s such a pain in the ass to attempt to buy ammo at their stores, I just don’t want to deal with it. Regular gun shops, online(prior to the Ebay crowd purchasing said Walmart ammo), and gun shows remain my source.

Technically, I agree with what you are saying, but with the financial meltdown of 2008 and a big chunk of the public being weary of the wars in the mid-east, it would not have mattered who the Republican candidate was, they would have been toast in the general election. The political cycle has always ebbed and flowed like that, wise choices or not being made by the public. The only way I see that trend changing is with the demographic changes happening, the DNC is preparing to lock themselves into power for possibly generations and will do so successfully no matter how bad things get. The turd worlders pouring across our borders will vote Dem no matter how bad things get.

Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security is using roughly 1,000 rounds of ammunition more per person than the U.S. Army, as he and other lawmakers sharply questioned DHS officials on their “massive” bullet buys.

“It is entirely ... inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition,” Chaffetz, R-Utah, said at a hearing.
