Rick Santorum could be a thorn in Ted Cruz’s side in 2016. Here’s why.(WaPo dropping acid?)

Was the end result of Ted Cruz’s effort to derail Obamacare in the recently concluded budget debate a good one? Rick Santorum doesn’t think so.

“I would say that in the end, he did more harm,” Santorum said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” adding that while Cruz’s aim was worthy, his follow through wasn’t effective.

Does it matter what Santorum, a failed 2012 White House contender, thinks of Cruz, a freshman Texas senator and rising conservative star? Yes. Because of Iowa.

Cruz made his third swing through the first-in-the-nation caucus state over the weekend, building more bridges with conservative activists and stoking more chatter that he will run for president in 2016. If he does, Cruz will be spending an awful lot more time in the Hawkeye State, because the nominating caucus there, dominated by GOP activists, is his natural political base.

There’s little reason to doubt that Cruz could compete for Iowa in the GOP presidential sweepstakes. But he’s not a shoo-in. And one factor that could well determine how far he goes is what Santorum decides to do.

The eventual winner of 2012 Iowa caucuses, Santorum hasn’t ruled out another run....

Rick Santorum wouldn’t make a pimple on Ted Cruz’s butt ,much less a thorn in his side.

Just compare their undergraduate, law school and legal careers. The notion is laughable. No knock on Senator Santorum, but they're not in the same league, at all. It's NFL versus community college, if that.

Santorum was one in a lineup of many subpar candidates, which is why he won Iowa (not by a lot). If a behemoth like Cruz entered the fray, Rick would be getting Huntsman numbers. Sorry for being blunt.

I supported Santorum in the primaries but he’s dead to me now.

I expected better from Santorum.

Yeah right, because Iowa is stupid and won’t know the difference between a failed candidate and a fighter that is standing up for America. Sheesh!

I worry that Huntsman or something like him is the natural follow-on to John McCain and Willard Romney.

Santorum is irrelevant.

Ricky is just another power-lusting politician.

Reagan ran and won - he believed in the people and in limited government.

If Cruz decides to run, he will do so because he believes in the people and in limited government.

If Ricky boy runs again it will because of his obsession with becoming President in order to feed his arrogant ego...

It's sad how Ricky boy thinks he is so wise and knowledgable on every subject..

It amuses me how the communist DemocRATS are scared to death right now that the GOP is going to dry up and blow away. Communism needs an “evil villain” for it to work. The commie ‘RATS need a boogey man to scare the hell out of their low to no information voters. Right now, the communists in the state controlled “media” have the GOP and TEA Party to fill that purpose. Without the GOP and the TEA Party, the commie ‘RATS are finished.

I think Krispy Kreme is a place holder. No nation in the television age is going to elect a 450lb. president. Just as I think Hillary is in danger from fauxcahontas for appearance’s sake.
