The internal battle between establishment and conservative Republicans has gained intensity recently, especially as more and more frustrated Americans align themselves with Tea Party values like limited government and individual liberty. Desperate to retain power, many in the partys left wing choose to focus their efforts on fellow Republicans rather than the corrupt Democrats currently in charge of D.C.
One of the latest examples of this disturbing trend came during a recent MSNBC segment featuring former Republican Rep. Steven LaTourette. Now the leader of a political action committee called Defending Main Street, the politico had some extremely harsh words for Tea Party hero Sen. Ted Cruz.
LaTourette, whose group receives much of its funding from sources decidedly to the left of Cruz, described Texas junior senator as reprehensible for his defense of fiscal responsibility. The recent debate over yet another hike in the debt ceiling was highlighted by Cruzs insistence that his fellow Republicans be held accountable for their votes. Though the increase ultimately passed, it did so without a single Republican vote.
By endorsing a principled fiscal position and demanding others in the party do the same, LaTourette concluded that Cruzs actions cannibalize the GOP. In reality, the outspoken conservative wing is merely attempting to stem the tide of big government waste that has largely overtaken the Republican Party.
Nevertheless, LaTourette appeared on the ultra-leftist news network to taunt Cruz and imply he is ruining the party he is trying to save.
I dont think he is a Republican, LaTourette said in the recent interview. I wish he would stop being a Republican and leave the party. That would be a nice thing.
Millions of Tea Party loyalists and Cruz supporters would beg to differ. As long as America operates under the current two-party system, conservatives realize the only way to survive the constant assault on prosperity and freedom is by stacking the GOP with patriotic leaders.
LaTourette along with other big government Republicans must sense the continued rightward shift of the partys base. In response, the only weapon left in their arsenal is the type of personal attack regularly levied against Cruz and others poised to become the new voice of the GOP.
The GOP never ceases to sicken me these days.
like LaTourette can impress any one
RUN TED RUN Both parties fear you we support YOU.
The GOP left Cruz and the rest of us years ago. My message to the GOPe: keep moving...right on into the Democratic Socialist Party. In the meantime freedom loving Americans will commandeer the GOP and use it to move America away from big government and taxes back to freedom where it should be.
Sounds like he has LaTourette's syndrome with regard to Ted Cruz.
America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi! |
FORMER cingresscritter.
He’d better watch what he wishes for. We may see an updated version of “The Pied Piper of Hamelin.”
I was reading the other day that America has a shortage of clowns because they are all going into politics.
I would be interested in knowing exactly which of Cruz' positions LaTourette disagrees with.
Then, we'd be in a position to determine who it was that should "leave the party".
Let him officially create the TEA party!
His deceptively named "Defending Main Street" PAC is being financed primarily by Wall Street and labor unions, which have contributed at least 20% to the group's fundraising haul.
Shouldn’t the title read “so called GOP leader and political hack wants Cruz to leave Party”?
I unfortunately must acknowledge that this was once my congress man. He sucked then he sucks now just less than a full lib.
thanks, for the interesting post.
Who the frick made Steve “sleeps with employees” LaTourette a so called “Republican Leader?” He’s the leader of Jack and sh!t, and Jack left town.
I absolutely agree with what LaTourette Syndrome says here.
Cruz is NO REPUBLICAN.
Cruz is a Conservative, and the Republican leadership does not want Conservatives in their party.
The Republican party left us long ago. It's time for a second party if elections are worth anything in a MarxoFascist dictatorship.
Sorry, who? It’s hard to keep track of every leader-in-his-own-mind.
La Tourette...another scumbag from Ohio.
When he ran the first time, he said he was a firm believer in term limits and would run for only 2 terms. Well, that was back in 1995.
And he screwed around with one of his office staff.
A real jerk.
Here’s a sample of his voting record from Wiki:
On Thursday, March 17, 2011 LaTourette became one of only seven Republicans who voted “NO” on a measure introduced in the US House of Representatives to strip all government funding from NPR.
In a meeting with transit advocates, LaTourette disparaged fellow legislators, referring to them as “knuckledraggers that came in in the last election that hate taxes,” due to their reluctance to even consider revenue as part of a compromise to extend the debt ceiling.
On June 28, 2012, LaTourette was one of only two Republicans (along with Scott Rigell of Virginia) who voted against a motion to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in criminal contempt of Congress, though he did vote to bring civil charges against Holder, for his handling of the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal.
