Ted Cruz and Rand Paul: Opposite directions
The Washington Post's Right Turn ^ | April 20, 2014 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 04/20/2014 3:29:40 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In 2013, freshmen senators Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) seemed like two peas in a pod. Both railed at the NSA, backed the government shutdown, opposed intervention in Syria and championed the tea party faithful. But 2014 has been a different story.

Cruz has become a serious, vocal proponent of a tough foreign policy and harsh critic of President Obama’s approach to Iran and Russia. He gave serious speeches on the importance of standing up to Vladimir Putin and on the folly of expecting Iran to give away its nuclear weapons program without stringent sanctions and/or the threat of force. He recently introduced and led unanimous passage of a bill, signed by the president, to ban issuance of visas for terrorists seeking to represent their countries as diplomats....

Yes, I know she's the queen of the neo-cons. So you should take her words with the same grain of salt you do every other biased journalist or commentator, which is to say all of them.

Both Senator Ted Cruz and Governor Sarah Palin have the qualities of Presidents Ronald Reagan and Calvin Coolidge.

As for the Pauls (Rand and his unhinged daddy)? Harold Stassen.

Cruz and Palin have jumped the shark attacking Putin.

Rand has it right.

Our enemy is Islanmists and Obama's ideology.

Putin opposes both.

Paul and Obama and the international Socialists and communists seem to be on the same page in dealing weakly with Russia.

Cruz disagrees with them.

”During the 2016 GOP primaries, one or more Republican primary opponents will almost certainly suggest that Rand Paul is Vladimir Putin’s poodle.” Well, Rand does have the hair of a poodle.

This is lame but many libertarians and lefties agree with it.

“The report makes clear that the US entered into the Geneva agreement with Russia, purportedly to “deescalate tensions” in Ukraine, in bad faith, intending to use Russia’s supposed breach of the deal as justification for expanded sanctions and a further aggressive buildup of US and NATO forces in Eastern Europe aimed at encircling and strangling Russia.

The dispatch of US troops to Poland is a reckless and provocative move that heightens the very real danger not only of civil war in Ukraine, but of war by the US, Germany and NATO against Russia, a nuclear power. It underscores the fact that the crisis in Ukraine was deliberately provoked by Washington to create the pretext for a political, economic, diplomatic and military offensive against Russia that had long been in the planning.”

"Putin opposes both. "

Where do you get that? From Putin's support of Iran?

Jennifer Rubin is at it again. She truly hates Rand Paul and the constitution.

You are right.

I wouldn’t be too hard on Cruz though. Jennifer Rubin is distorting what everyone said.

Remember Neville “Peace in our time” Chamberlain. He was for the “strategic use of soft power,” too.

"Cruz and Palin have jumped the shark attacking Putin."

I'm not ready to say that. Cruz isn't a neocon/statist by any objective measure.

Putin needs more than a slap on the wrist for being a thorn in our side for all things USA on the UN security counsel. Putin is a globalist/imperialist and is out maneuvering the community organizer on every move. So is China. So is India. We badly need a statesman now, not a fascist apologist with an overblown ego.
