No amount of scandals and obnoxious Democrats are going to help us win if we don't nominate good candidates.

This is very true.
Some people around here were very upset that Romney lost, blaming everyone from young-voters, to welfare-culture, to O-bots but they all failed to realize one thing:
Mitt Romney was/is Obama, politically speaking there's virtually no difference between the two. (And let's not deceive ourselves by saying that the Republicans would have held his feet tot the fire if he was elected — we all know that's not true because the opposition party can't even be bothered to oppose the ACA, which is an incredibly unpopular 'law'.)

I don't think anyone here supported Romney in the primaries. I would venture to say virtually no one at all wanted Romney on FR. No one had any illusions that he was anything but a milquetoast squish, the problem is we didn't have terribly good primary candidates and everyone was very divided about the ones we had to pick from. It didn't help that Palin waited till late in the game to make a formal decision. There were a lot of people committed to a Palin candidacy that savaged anyone they thought would be a threat to her potential run. Not that that really mattered too much in the end considering people like Perry self imploded anyway.

Mitt Romney was the better choice in the general election, but he definitely wasn't a very good candidate and pretty much no actual conservative was excited about him. It was all about trying to remove Obama, and that just wasn't enough.

This time around I hope a good conservative candidate emerges early and we are all able to rally around him. None of them are going to be completely pure, but we can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Perhaps someone like Ted Cruz or Scott Walker can be a consensus movement conservative candidate we can all get behind once they've demonstrated they can cut it on the national stage (ie, don't screw up in the debates).
