Its not too uncommon for Republican leaders from the House and Senate to occasionally meet, trade notes, and work out bicameral strategies, but as a rule, rank-and-file members tend to stick with colleagues from the same chamber. When they have ideas or grand plans, GOP lawmakers usually turn to their chambers leadership or committee chairs.
Which is why its odd to see House Republicans huddle so frequently with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
Last September, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) presented a plan to avoid a government shutdown. Cruz met directly with House Republicans, urged them to ignore their own leaders plan, and GOP House members followed his advice. The result was an embarrassing and unnecessary shutdown.
A month later, Cruz held another meeting with House Republicans, this time in a private room at a Capitol Hill restaurant. In April, the Texas senator again gathered House Republicans, this time for a private meeting in his office. Cruzs office shared very few details with reporters, except to note that the 90-minute session included candy bars, crackers and soda.
And then last week, less than an hour after House Republicans elected a new leadership team, guess who had an invitation for them?
At 4 p.m., immediately following the leadership elections, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) who has repeatedly encouraged House conservatives to defy their leaders sent an e-mail to a large group of conservative House Republicans.
Cruz invited them to meet with him June 24 for an off-the-record gathering and an evening of discussion and fellowship.
Pizza, Cruz told them, will be served.
Im sure it was delightful, but I cant help but wonder about the purpose of all of these meetings.
Some of this, I suspect, is the result of an unusual leadership dynamic....

Ooooh noes... The Cruz is soooooo scary
I love their “Oh, doesn’t he look like Joseph McCarthy?” nonsense. That’s the best you’ve got? I sorta look like John Candy or Butterbean, but am not like either one.
Oh, and "no IRS scandal". Stay in your bubble Miss Rachet.
Holy crap! Never put that picture up again. Please! I almost fainted.
The Lie, repeated AGAIN. The shutdown was solely the fault of Baraq Obama and Harry Reid, who never allowed the House budget to come to the Senate floor for vote in direct disobedience to their Constitutional responsibilities.
And of course, since the Republican Party has not the first clue on how to manage a political message, The Lie is repeated as often as convenient.
I’m curious did he show the same level of interest on the secret meetings that the head of the IRS had with Obama?
Which is why its odd to see House Republicans huddle so frequently with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
She answers her own question before she even asks it. If there WERE leadership of the House GOP, I'm sure they'd confer. As it is, all they have is surrender monkey "Cryin" Boner, so what the heck are they supposed to do? Any why does Man-Cow care anyway? It's a semi-free country, or so they tell me.
Fun game but just how much are the Conservative Republicans doing to resolve the current problems? Not much as I’d suspect. It is time for them to get some balls or go away..
Really tired of all of these fake Republicans!
Does everyone here know that One Senator from the Minority Party in the Senate has the POWER to shut down the entire United States Government?
I didn’t, but I’ve had more than a few people, Liberals and Moderates tell me so. Senator Cruz must be Superman!
Seriously?
Ah, are you one of the last of the faithful Republicans without questioning their actions? Maybe you should be re-thinking your future vote. I know I am...
And that is from one Vet to another...
As an addition, I am just really tired of all of the phoney politics of both parties. It is past time for the Republicans to either do something grand or go away! Am really tired of the same old politics without actually doing anything about it. If they can’t do anything about this much corruption in government, then what good are they!
It’s one thing to believe in Conservative policies but when your own so called party continues to play politics and does nothing to solve the problems, then you have to ask yourself, why - and what is your position?
included candy bars, crackers and soda.. OH THE HORROR!
What, no arugula?
Perhaps, but who forwarded Cruz’s email to Maddow and told her all about his meetings? Seems like their is a traitor in our midst.
I guess they forgot about Pelosi locking the Republicans out of Bill Conference about OBAMACARE.
So now the liberals can tell our ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES who they’re allowed to meet with, and who they are not allowed to meet with?
Do they likewise limit the Democrats in the same way?
