Joe Scarborough slams Chris Christie on guns

Joe Scarborough on Tuesday slammed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s refusal to meet with the parents of the Sandy Hook shooting, calling his defense one of the “stupidest arguments” he’s ever heard.

The Republican governor declined to meet with the families of children who were killed in the December 2012 shooting at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School, who wanted to discuss gun control legislation. Christie last week vetoed a state bill that would have banned ammunition magazines that held more than ten rounds.

The governor said that it would have been “really hypocritical” to meet with the families who wanted to push for gun control, given that he had already made up his mind and vetoed the bill.

Christie also pushed back against gun control advocates, saying that their arguments suggest that they should logically support a ban on all guns.

“Are we saying then that the 10 children on the clip that they advocate for, that their lives are less valuable?” he said at a press conference on Monday. “If you take the logical conclusion of their argument, you go to zero, because every life is valuable.”

Scarborough, a former Republican congressman, said Christie’s response was disingenuous.

“It was painful watching Chris Christie talking about, somehow limiting clips to ten bullets means that you don’t care about the ten children that will be killed by those bullets? That is just one of the stupidest arguments I think I have ever heard,” he said on Tuesday.

Scarborough said that Christie’s decision was politically motivated, since as a more moderate figure he would have had a more difficult time defending the veto than a tea party figure like Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

“When you have to push yourself to defend extreme positions, these are the things you have to do,” Scarborough said.

“I think Ted Cruz could sit there and articulate why he would oppose this gun law. I’m sure he’s thought about it a lot. … I don’t think Chris Christie can,” he said, adding that the veto was about “political expediency” and one he Christie likely doesn’t “intellectually” agree with.

The MSNBC host, who also writes a column for POLITICO, mocked the governor for his comments at the press conference that he feels “extraordinary sympathy” for the families of the shooting.

“I feel extraordinary sympathy for them but I will not meet with them for ten minutes,” Scarborough said after airing the clip.

Good job Christie.

Stick with it. The left is far, far too much involved with setting an agenda in America.

There have been times Christie hasn’t done so well on this issue. Just saying. Good job this time.

Even put aside his history on gun control, why does he have to meet with these parents? The shooting didn’t occur in New Jersey? Why subject yourself to a bunch of people who are going to push you to come out for gun control in a situation where you will look bad if you say no? Its a lose-lose situation. At least he’s not stupid enough to subject himself to it, which is saying something because a lot of Republican politicans would be stupid enough to do it.

I’d call him a “Flipper” but blue whales are more noted for their slow roll.

A shooting has parents?!

The highest honor and privilege in our society is to be a victim of something.

Wait a minute- didn't I see on this forum that Sandy Hook never happened, that it was a government lie to get more gun control? How could there be parents? < /sarc >
