Skip to comments.Act of Love? Jeb Bush, ‘Moderate Republican,’ Calls for Deportation Of Migrant Children

Remember when former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, the consummate moderate Republican, shocked everyone by calling immigration an act of love? It looks like hes changed his mind. On Thursday, he called for nearly all of the 50,000-plus immigrants in limbo on our Southwest border to be sent home. That is, except for those deserving few who may demonstrate a true case for asylum. Deserving few? Someone should ask Bush which of the children fleeing impoverished and violent countries (where they have a 1 in 15 chance of being murdered) like Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras deserve to be sent home. Someone should also ask him whether the children at our border deserve to live under atrocious conditions in America, the country Republicans constantly praise and never stop disgracing. Someone should ask Bush if this is how we respond to acts of love.
To be fair, Bush doesnt sink to blaming the victims outright. Instead, he blames President Obama, claiming that the massive influx of immigrants into America is the latest consequence of the failure of President Barack Obama and Congress to overhaul Americas broken immigration. Apparently, the House GOPs refusal to even vote on an immigration bill drafted by a bipartisan Gang of 8″ and passed in the Senate is due to Obamas lack of leadership. How about John Boehners lack of leadership? Why not place some blame with the man so utterly weak and spineless that he cannot bring his caucus to vote on one of the most important pieces of legislation of the past eight years. Bush does not suggest what Obama could have done differently, or how Congress as a whole should have functioned better. He simply adopts a smug, superior tone, gets on his high horse and lectures the President about leadership, just like other Republican governors who want to pass themselves off as outsiders while offering no solutions of their own.
Jeb Bushs empty, partisan rhetoric is particularly galling because he, in contrast to his brother, is meant to represent the brains of the GOP. He is a policy wonk and eccentric intellectual who stands apart from the rabid populism of the Tea Party. It is discouraging that, at least in this case, his rhetoric is Tea Party-lite, offering none of the substance his reputation would suggest. If all Jeb Bush brings to the table is a meeker version of Tea Party ideology, hes not much better than Rick Perry and Ted Cruz. After all, speaking crazy ideas a little more softly doesnt make them less crazy, even when you try and fail to justify them in Wall Street Journal Op-Eds. It appears that the GOPs search for sane leadership, of which the future of America may depend on, must continue. And, if Jeb gets his way, so must the misery of 50,000 poor children languishing at our border.
I smell an election coming up.
I think of it as "simulated Tea Party product" with a lot of monosodium glutamate for flavor, Red State dye #5 for political coloring and BHA and BHT to try to conceal the staleness of yet another Bush.
Poor Jeb gets blown all over the place by following the polls. He’s a third tier candidate,he needs to reconcile himself to that fact.
“calling for them all to be drop-kicked ...”
Jeb Bush! He’s so dreamy, Gidget ... sigh
Is that like "fairness" or "sensible" or the other feel good words that liberals use to lure the witless into Marxist's traps?
Simple. All of them. Why is it our problem? Let them go through the process we have in place for such situations. If things are that bad in your country, do something about it yourself instead of exporting your problems to our doorstep.
Damage control. He doesn’t mean a word of it.
There you go again
Two guys I will never vote for no matter what are Jeb Bush and Chris Christie
But I have to say I’m still nagged by the memory of Rick Perry in 2011 saying those opposed to tuition breaks for children of illegal immigrants dont have a heart.
You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.
What happened, did he start reading his mail?
Try to wrap your head around that: How low would you have to go, how desensitized would you have to be to be so incredibly heartless and vicious as these two pieces of vermin.
Hard to imagine isn't it? Like my brother said, it's like trying to understand someone who celebrates child rape. This is the type of scum that is Jeb Bush.
Don’t you mean “did one of his lower-rung underlings stumble onto his mail while fetching some Beluga caviar?”
If you don’t realize how hard these elites are laughing at you and me then you know nothing about them. In their minds they’re a completely different, much superior species.
Hard to read this one. You have to keep shifting gears. The guy doesn’t like Jeb but he dislikes him for all the wrong reasons.
Has Boston changed Jeb’s mind? Some pol in Mass. said he’d never seen a backlash like this one. Election coming up indeed.
And I have a land in Florida to sell you-really, it isn’t swamp land. Honest.
Exactly. A main reason they’re getting special treatment is because they’re part of this contiguous land mass. What about those poor innocent little children in horrible nations across oceans??? Don’t we kind-hearted Americans care about their plight, too???
If they were coming from countries with strong conservative values and not 75% likely to be party-line Democrat voters, we’d be hearing a different tune from the jackwagon politicians.
And hey Jeb... Go suck a rotten egg!
He is on spin cycle. He has to try to make himself look like a conservative. He is not a leader he is a sock puppet.
Nice try, Jeb. You capitulated to those who howled for Terri Schiavo’s blood, so why would anyone trust you not to capitulate to the La Raza lunatics who howl for American blood?
I agree. We already know of one potential candidate from Texas and his opposition to building a fence. We need to know of others are pro-ILLEGAL alien enough to think that way too.
Middle of the road moderates get hit by busses all the time.
Bye, bye Jebbie.
He lying to get support knowing Congress and obama aren’t going to do anything about it!
He should take his mexican bitch and go to Mexico and never come back!
Apparently still hasn't got the memo that "the law" is whatever the guy with the power says it is.
and BHA and BHT to try to conceal the staleness of yet another BHO.
Well...tried to fix it but it's really beyond repair.
Great photo! Well done.
Re: “Children fleeing impoverished and violent countries (where they have a 1 in 15 chance of being murdered).
A 1 in 15 chance of being murdered?
What a steaming pile of political poop!
According to the UN, Honduras has the highest murder rate in the world:
1 chance in 1,106.
Children a la Trayvon...
Jeb and my current senator Rubio are all for amnesty.
Both are for of crap and both talk out both sides of their heads on this issue.
Both are f-ing RINO’s and not worth a 1/4 pound of yesterdays pooh.
Leftwing kooks are so easily transparent and always demonstrate they know absolutely nothing about the Constitutional goals of the TEA party.
