This is a state legislative runoff between two Republicans, but it may have repercussions in 2016. State Assemblyman Brian Nestande thought about running, but ran for Congress against Paul Ruiz and lost. It’s very early, but Bonnie Garcia could conceivable seek a comeback by running against Ruiz in the next cycle, as she polled credibly against Stone and won the eastern part of the district. Nestande ran an inept campaign and Garcia would have made a better showing.
Bonnie Garcia also has a better surname for that CD than Nestande had.
(Having the “right kind of” surname isn’t enough to guarantee victory, of course, or else Recchia would have defeated Grimm in the heavily Italian NY-11 instead of losing in a landslide; but it sounds as if Garcia is a competent politician.)
