GOP’s shutdown debacle resembles our first … in 1879!

A conservative minority refused to fund the government unless the president gave them their agenda. Sound familiar?

Cruz has as good a chance as anyone else out there. I expect him to beat Bush for the nomination and then crush Hillary in the general. If Bush is nominated, he'll get beat like McCain and Romney and I think most people know that now.

Ted Cruz - 2016

“Heather Cox Richardson teaches nineteenth-century American history at Boston College.”

Is it “Heather Cox” or “Heather Cocks”. Looking up her(it) name on Google leaves me wondering. She looks more like a man than Robert Plant (back in his prime).

Why does the media keep dumping these samples to cover the Republicans? That’s the SECOND ONE this morning that we’ve had to deal with. I’ve seen some female Journalism majors that actually look like women...how about using them once in a while.

” conservatives are largely unorganized and unwilling to fight “ until there is a great leader and a greater cause and unite as one.

The left has far to long have underestamated us.

Ted Cruz is a master tactics tactition, where as a great general knows his enemy ( Patton : Rommel ? I read your book ! )

But ? a legendary general not only knows his enemy, but manipulates his enemy and gets into his head, to use his enemy’s very own moves and decisions against him.

A ledgonary general ? In his mind ? He is confident that the battle is already won.

Ted Cruz doesn’t have to do a thing to bring in the Indies and Moderates, all he has to do is sit back and wait and let the extremism, the shrill of the left, the media bring the Indies and Moderates to him, Ted Cruz in a good way is a sly fox.....

“...most Republicans came to accept the idea that the federal government must protect workers, provide jobs and establish a social safety net to keep people from starving.”

Note the technique here: Using the term “provide jobs” and “keep people from starving” in the same sentence. I think most Republicans don’t have a problem with government keeping (legal) Americans from starving - but that is a HUGE DIFFERENCE from “providing jobs”. No different that saying that most Americans prefer women not bleed to death - therefore most Americans support government payments for unlimited access to abortion.

I assume they teach this technique in Journalism School - it probably works too.

Now that’s what I call true progressiveness.

True progressivism is turning everything into crap.

“But Cruz belongs to a reactionary wing of the party that rejects the idea that the government has any role at all to play in the American economy.”

The fact that liberals have to say things like this—in order to have anything at all to say—only confirms to me not only do they not understand the first thing about conservatisim but that they don’t even understand the first thing about progressivism.

“No matter how popular government programs might be, the government could do nothing the Founding Fathers had not expressly enumerated in the Constitution, or it would destroy American freedom.”

I think, given our NATIONAL DEBT, the Founding Fathers were DEAD-ON when they feared leaving the Constitution would destroy our freedom. It certainly will for my kids and (future) grand kids.

Is there ANYONE on this site that thinks “federal intervention in education policy” has helped our kids? ANYONE?

“It did not matter if the majority of Americans disagreed with this worldview. According to Bozell, American progress depended not on regular people applying their “average intelligence” to the day’s problems. What moved society forward was “the brilliance and dedication of wise individuals” who apply “their wisdom to advance the freedom and well-being of all of our people.” “

If enough of a “majority of Americans” have a problem with the worldview of our founders, then they can simply AMEND THE CONSTITUTION to permit whatever they demand. It has been done dozens of times already.

The country WAS NOT supposed swing with whatever direction the wind blew on a particular day.

“More than 60 percent of the American electorate opposed Goldwater and gave Democrat Lyndon Johnson a supermajority to pass the Great Society legislation that expanded the New Deal.”

NO REPUBLICAN was going to win in 1964, a year after the death of Camelot. It wasn’t that they opposed Goldwater, it was that they weren’t in the mood for hard-ball politics...not then. But they were in 1980 and they seem ready heading towards 2016.

“Cruz has vowed to repeal “every word of the Common Core,” a vow that has perplexed observers who point out that Common Core is a set of standards voluntarily adopted by states rather than a law”

It is NOT VOLUNTARY once money is dangled (as was the case with Common Core, called “Race to the top” - part of the Obama ‘stimulus’), otherwise we wouldn’t have laws against BRIBERY.

So let’s END THIS charade about Common Core being “voluntarily” adopted by the states - THEY WERE BRIBED, and most governors, even most IDIOT REPUBLICANS took the bait.
