The Mysterious Columba Bush
The Atlantic ^ | The June 2015 Issue | Hanna Rosin

Posted on 05/20/2015 5:26:32 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Who is Jeb’s wife, what effect will she have on his campaign—and what effect will his campaign have on their marriage?

Now and then in an otherwise unmemorable speech, Jeb Bush will drop a mention of his wife, like a sudden pop of color. At an event in Nevada this March, one of his first speeches of this campaign season, before a crowd of what The Washington Post called “everyday Americans,” Bush opened with a husband-still-in-thrall routine. His life, he said, can be divided into two parts: “b.c. and a.c.—before Columba and after Columba,” referring to Columba Garnica de Gallo, the woman he fell madly in love with while on a high-school trip to Mexico and then married 41 years ago.

The crowd, full of seniors and some Spanish speakers, awwwed and cheered. Columba herself was not in attendance. Perhaps because he hadn’t officially declared his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination, she felt no hurry to claim her title as candidate’s wife.

Friends of the Bush family to this day tell stories of Jeb and Columba’s deep and obvious affection for each other. And yet by any straightforward measure of compatibility—family background, interests, personality, ideas about a pleasant way to spend an afternoon—they seem to have very little in common....

When Al and Tipper affirm their love, it is normal and praiseworthy. But when Jeb Bush affirms his love for his wife, it because weird in the eyes of The Atlantic.

I don't care who she is, all I care about is that Jebbie go home and stay there—with his wife. NO JEBBIE IN THE WHITE HOUSE. Enough.

Just because you don’t like Jeb, don’t condone these liberal hit pieces. Don’t give these a**holes any credibility. You know they will do the same (or worse) to whomever YOU support.

She’s got it backwards. The end of women causes the rise of men.

I used to like to walk to the ferry at 2am after my shift in Rockefeller plaza. Liked having the city to myself.

One night, during my walk down 5th avenue, I bumped into four Dreamers. One of them had a look of hate that betrayed terrible things he had done. His rage was palpable and he wanted to rip me apart. My American pride and Sicilian blood wouldn’t let me apologize and walk away. Luckily his friends pulled him away.
These are dangerous people folks. And they are pouring in.

I found out enough about Columba when she struggled with the decision as to whether or not to become an American citizen. She did so to vote for her father-in-law. The thought of her as First Lady is as preposterous as what we’ve got now.

She might tell us the story about her putting a ring in Jeb’s nose though.

Let’s not forget it was the Connecticut liberal, George Bush, who setup the “welcome to America” outreach centers in Mexico instructing those wanting to “immigrate” to the US how to apply and then receive welfare - soup to nuts..

It’s amazing people are unable to see through the entire phoney “New England” Bush family.

The “New England” Bush family is no more than facilitators in the importation of the “New Hessens”.

Ever heard W talk in front of Texans and then his fellow “New Englanders”?

Goodness, stupid people..!

Well, since the “Busch” family was sent here from Germany by a consortium of financiers and merchants, I don’t think your “Hessian” analogy is too far off.
