Mazin was roommates with Cruz their freshman year at Harvard, an odd couple with Cruz being conservative and Mazin being ultra-liberal.

Cruz writes about Mazin in his book. He said Mazin super-glued his snooze button on his alarm so it wouldn't work. He said Mazin was annoyed at Cruz repeatedly hitting the snooze button every morning. :-)
