Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, Colorado, Virginia amd Maine. Then I’ll tell you he could win in NY, NJ, CT and MA if things roll right. Now tell me with a straight face if any of the states ive named can be won by Cruz, with his narrow campaign aimed at religious voters?

Currently Ted Cruz has the best chance to beat Hilary Clinton. Meanwhile Donald "The loudmouth" Trump is doing worse against Hilary Clinton than anyone else.

That said, you are likely correct in that he won't be able to flip enough Democrat states to win the general. Cruz would be perfect to rebuild our country on conservative principals, but, like any construction job, you need a bulldozer to clear out the debris before you rebuild. Trump is that bulldozer. A Trump/Cruz ticket is our best shot at doing this right. IMHO
I've seen numerous national polls showing Trump would lose to Hillary by a GREATER margin than the other Republicans. I will be happy to cite them for you. The only people who seem to think "national polls don't matter" are Trump fans that argue that Trump will win a 49 state landslide because they say so.
Trumps going to have to up his game ......the advantage he has is also he’s in his comfort zone of “entertaining” his supporters by repetition and buzz words and quoting what ever news story he’s read to “share”m specifically the polls. .....All this to retain his “fan” supporters will not be sufficient to obtain the ‘additional supporters’ he will need to actually win.
