My Friends and I Went to a Ted Cruz Rally— Here’s What Happened

I believe that there are a lot of things we do in life not because they will be fun, but just because we want to say we did them. For me, one of those things ended up being attending a local Ted Cruz rally last week (March 14, 2016) with a few of my friends.

Before this, my friends and I had never been to any sort of political rally. This was certainly an interesting choice to be our first. Supporters in the crowd wore election-themed shirts and fervently waved posters in the air. Among the messages portrayed through this medium were, “restore integrity,” “raised right,” and “Hillary for prison 2016.” It felt like we were perhaps the only onlookers who forgot to purchase weirdly politically driven products from the warped right-wing section of Etsy.

Before Cruz took the stage, a local organizer spoke and made a somewhat pretentious comparison between Cruz and the last Presidential candidate to visit this city, one Ronald Reagan. When Cruz himself finally arrived, his first words spoken were, “God bless the great state of Illinois!” (I was like, lolz, while you’re talking to Him, can you ask Him to make our governor give us a budget so our schools get money?)

He continued by making the first of a whole night full of broad statements with seemingly no evidentiary support or research. Aiming for the younger people in the crowd, he brought up student loans and other worries of today’s college students, but made no solid promises...

Still promoting the guy...

Cruz needs to stand down, and come to some sort of arrangement with Donald Trump.

Just saying.

My son start college in Indiana in August. We live in Florida. It’s 35 thousand. However it is in aerospace engineering. I am amazed that we can’t get a dime of financial aid. We make too much....what a laugh. Anyway we can swing the first two years but then son number two joins the ranks of the college population and then things get complicated. Luckily from there our third son doesn’t go until 3 years after (he may go to CC). And then after that our daughter six years later......we are going to be poor for the next 10 years at least. Loans like the federal ones are small compared to tuition. So we will pray for a good turn out and see what happens. I am shocked at the prices though. I went to school out of state from Pennsylvania to Florida state and I think it was around 10 grand. Of course that was 29 years ago that I started. Yieks....

I think the writer expects too much from any campaign speech by any candidate if she expects “evidentiary support or research” for every statement made to be presented during the event. What did she want? Cruz to pull out policy papers and research data and read them then and there to support his views? Then she would be complaining that she was bored. No, campaign speeches are just speeches where some basic ideas are brought up. They aren’t designed to be in depth. How much can anyone pack into 15 minutes? I don’t know who this writer is, but I expect that she went into the event to write a nasty, snarly article bashing Cruz and all the mindless Republicans. On the other hand, I may grant her some credibility if she holds the same standards and expectations for the candidates on the Left. And then writes articles bashing Hillary and Sanders and publishes them in the Huff Post.

why not send them to state school?

My oldest is about to join the marines but has two options if he never.
Bright futures or ROTC scholarship which is up to 140 grand.

He already has over a year over college whilst in high school under the duel enrollment

Nathan Bedford's first Maxim of American politics provides all you need to understand this hit job on the Cruz rally:

All politics of America's not local but ultimately racial

As if “Feel the Bern” was any better. No thanks.

He is going to university of Indiana. It’s insane what it costs today. It is out of state but still.
