I used to travel to Marshalltown with some regularity back in the 1980's, and driving through it nowadays is like seeing an old friend who is embarrassingly down on his luck.
But heck, most of Iowa outside of the government racket or insurance/banking cities isn't any better off.

When I worked at the Job Service in Des Moines we had the lowest unemployment in the nation much of the time. I could get hobos and welfare moms good jobs.
