Here's Why President Trump Should Not Form a New Political Party: Trump’s base needs to become one of the new factions that strikes a deal to build a new coalition.

The Wall Street Journal reported that President Donald Trump had talked to aides about the idea of starting a new political party. His urge is understandable. Considering the events that have transpired since the January 6th riots and some Republicans voting to impeach him, emotions are high. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s floor speech was rather shocking as well as disappointing. Even more so in light of additional information that the Capitol’s breach was planned in advance, not a result of Trump’s comments that day. That really weakens any incitement charge.

However, I would ask President Trump to pause for a moment and reflect on a few things. First, he should think about his impressive list of accomplishments. On many of those items, he had near-unanimous Republican support. During his tenure, we also got rid of some of the squishier Republicans. Jeff Flake comes to mind.

Some Republicans seemed to stiffen their spines and realize that their Democratic colleagues were playing a different game. Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) certainly did during the Kavanaugh hearings. It seems Senator Rubio has had some real change of heart on immigration. Many others have changed their views on unabated free trade that disadvantages America, especially with China. We’ll see if those changes are durable as “Cocaine Mitch” disappeared shortly after the election to become second-fiddle in the Uniparty again.

In short, since the Tea Party started in 2010, the Republican Party has been changing. As a result, there is realignment going on in the electorate. Republicans are no longer the party of big business and will have to learn not to reflexively prioritize free trade and free markets at all costs. President Trump started to build a new base of Republican voters.

The GOP has been pitching this BS to conservatives for years. I am done with it. I am of the opinion that the GOP no longer wants me in the party, so I will go elsewhere. Just waiting for President Trump to signal the landing zone.

Change “coalition” to “nation” in the headline, and then we have something going.

Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!

Oh, Jake... Jake, honey...

If voters ever figure that out, Democrats will never win a national election again until they reform.

I have news for the author. Democrats now control the people, the process, the machines, the people who count the vote and the judiciary who won't lift a finger to expose the fraud. They won't lose another election no matter how bigly they're beaten.

Had there been no Vote By Mail, fraud would have been much more difficult.

VBM came from the virus.

Dem administrations in WI, MI and PA jumped at the chance to have VBM.

It doesn’t matter if you have a new party or not. Unless VBM is stopped, nothing one can do will win anything.

The GOP is run by the Bushes and others who have financial and blackmail control over GOP polidiots.

The GOP is far too corrupt and criminal to be saved.

When Ted Cruz said at the RNC convention to “vote your conscience” and not vote for Trump and vote for Hillary instead, I knew then the GOP was a goner. I thought maybe Trump could save the GOP, but that statement, so bold as it was, meant there was no discipline in the GOP.

This is a difficult problem.
It’s easy to say start a new party and incredibly difficult to muster the resources to mount a successful POTUS independent campaign.
My rough estimate is that Trump would need to double the Perot vote AND pull 5% from the Dem side to pull it off.
Obviously the state-by-state analysis is a lot more complex.

You either form your own party or PURGE the GOP.
Binary option.

Fox News and the GOP used the same tactics and deserve the same fate.

Strike a deal with who, our un-representatives? They proven themselves as not trustworthy and cowardly. The party should die on the vine. Drop them all and start fresh.

We need to work together with The Blue Dog Democrats and Libertarians to form a new party. Nothing gets done unless a party is in power. We need to weaken both the Democrats and Republicans. Just fighting the Republicans will strengthen the Democrats. Remember we need to be elected in enough numbers to be the Majority.

I think his points are interesting. There have been changes in some of our squishier legislative figures (Graham and Rubio, for example, have both become more conservative and supportive of Trump). In any case, I think that all of the elected representatives realize that if they don’t support Trump, they have no chance of getting elected or reelected now.

I don’t think Trump should start a new party, although one may evolve. But he needs to assert his leadership of the existing GOP and reshape it in his image. One of the reasons that the GOP has gotten to its sorry state is that conservatives really have no leader. There is no one to insist that GOPers stick to the GOP platform and principles. The Dems have party discipline; we don’t.

Also, we have a lot of people who have simply been coasting along in office way too many years. They’ve lost their fire and just want to go along to get along (with the Dems). Because of recent events, I think some of them are realizing that the Dems don’t want to get along, they want us dead. So some of our fossils are waking up...but some aren’t, and they need to go. Get out now. Go join the Dems.

Two core planks for the republican party have always been, allegedly, smaller govt. and law and order.

The US govt has never been bigger and more lawless than it is now.
