If independent counsel Robert Ray really had the goods on criminal activity by former President Bill Clinton but decided not to bring charges, he himself might have been liable to an accusation of misfeasance in office.
Ray, of course, has nothing to worry about because this claim, made in a final report by the Clinton prosecution team, is beyond belief. There is every reason to suspect that Ray didn't bring charges because he had nothing that would convince a jury of Clinton's supposed guilt, just as Ray's predecessor and mentor, Kenneth Starr, was unable to come up with anything to bring a guilty verdict against Clinton in the Senate.

The Simple fact is if RinoRay who by the admission in his own report, feels he should prosecutor,judge, and jury, wants to be elected to the Senate in a state as liberal as NJ, prosecuting Clinton is a no-no.
And in a General Election in N.J. Conservatives, don't matter nearly as much as the soccer moms that still want to Nina Totenberg Bill.
Would the Conservatives who dominate the primaries (remember Bret Schundler) let Robert Ray (I thought he was a Democrat) have the GOP nomination.
My decision will be based on the following criteria:
1. Vocal public support for Right-to-Life.
2. Vocal public opposition to gun control.
3. Vocal public opposition to CFR.
4. Vocal public support for tax cuts.
5. Ability to beat Robert Torricelli.
I might vote for but I will not actively support another RINO!
I will be at the meeting and report back on the meeting. Watch this space for more information on the NJ Senate candidates.

I think we shaould all move to Texas, and Help the Hammer get elected to the Senate!
The senate candidates, or their representatives that were present, were called in alphabetical order an offered 4 minutes to speak. The time limit was not enforced. Following that a vote was taken to determine which candidate would have the "party line" during the primary. A roll call vote was made of the Monmouth County Leadership. The results were:
1. James Treffinger - 33
2. Robert Ray - 8
3. Guy Greg - 5
All others - no votes
There were about 6 abstentions, all from elected representatives who chose not to support a particular candidate.
Following the meeting, I spoke with the following candidates or their representatives. I was not able to speak with Mr. Treffinger. Monmouth County Chairman, Bill Dowd, represented Mr. Treffinger's views on the issues as best as he was able. Any errors in Mr. Treffinger's positions are mine and not Mr. Dowd's.
The following are the responses from the candidates that I spoke with or their authorized representatives. I asked questions about the candidate's positions on 1) Right-to-Life, 2) Second Ammendment, 3) Taxes, Limited Government, etc., 4) Campaign Finance Reform, 5) School Vouchers. A question mark means that I don't know.
In alphabetical order, my impressions of the responses were:
Diane Allen - Talked with a staffer.
1. --- Votes pro-choice, I don't care how she feels otherwise.
2. ++ Supports 2nd Ammendment.
3. +++
4. ? My impression was that she would have voted for CFR.
5. ?
Douglas Forrester - Talked with Bill Pascoe.
1. ++
2. + No new laws
3. +++
4. +++ Would vote against CFR.
5. +++ Supports vouchers.
Guy Greg - Talked with the candidate.
1. + Very lukewarm support for Pro-Life position.
2. +++ Supports "Shall Issue" RTC
3. ++
4. +++ Would vote against CFR.
5. +++ Supports vouchers.
John Matheussen - Talked with a staffer.
1. +++ Strong Pro-Life position.
2. +++ Supports "Shall Issue" RTC
3. +++
4. ?
5. ?
Robert Ray - Talked with the candidate.
1. +++ Strong Pro-Life position.
2. ++ Pro 2nd Ammendment stopped short of CCW support.
3. +++
4. +++ Would vote against CFR.
5. +
James Treffinger - Talked with Bill Dowd and a staffer.
1. + Very lukewarm support for Pro-Life position.
2. + No new gun laws
3. +++
4. -- Would have voted for CFR.
5. + Supports reform of education.
In his speech, Mr. Treffinger also supported Initiative & Referrendum. I considered this a plus.
I voted for Jim Treffinger, solely because the vast majority of my precinct captains expressed a preference for Treffinger and not because of any personal feelings one way or the other. Personally, I liked Robert Ray's and Guy Greg's answers to my questions better. Mr. Ray seemed too much preocupied with proceedure for my taste. He did answer my questions in a straight forward manner.
I consider any and all of the Republican candidates an improvement over Robert Torricelli!
