Some political failures just cant seem to stay away from Washington. Its like a magnet for power hungry fat cats. This is true for ex-democratic Vice-Presidents. Walter Mondale lost in 1984 and Gore lost in 2000. Why cant they take the same road as Dan Quayle? At least Mr. Quayle was smart enough to know he didnt have a chance. Its apparent they couldnt do their jobs as Vice-President, so why did they think that Americans could trust them as The President? Both failed attempts have led them to crawl back to the DNC for another chance. Although they were successful in getting elected into congress, its time for them to move on and get civilian jobs now. I believe Mr. Mondale will find out real soon that he doesnt belong on Capitol Hill. Hopefully this election will put Mr. Mondale into retirement permanently. Its very doubtful that Gore will ever get the hint. Here are some quotes from Walter Mondale on the allpolitics chat on www.cnn.com that are a little confusing (referring to the 2000 presidential election): Question from Liberal: Mr. Mondale, what social issue do you think will promise to be most advantageous for the Democrats this fall? Walter Mondale: We've got to get control of guns. We need to get control of the environment.
My response: It is a utopia to control guns in the U.S. and it is physically impossible to control the environment!
Question from Libertarian: Mr. Mondale, do you believe that other candidates should be included in the debates? Walter Mondale: If you allow everyone to debate, instead of having a serious, profound focus on which of these two will be president, you get a huge cross section of candidates using up the time.
My response: In other words hes afraid that allowing others into the debate would lessen the chance for a democratic win. This is totally playing power monger politics.
Chat Moderator: What does Vice President Gore need to say on Thursday to rally the party, and deepen his support among the rank and file Democrats? Walter Mondale: He has a tremendous chance on Thursday to show us where he wants to take us. He will contrast greatly from George W. Bush. Bush's policies are the same ones I campaigned against 20 years ago; same stuff!
My response: Mondale lost campaigning against that stuff 20 years ago and Gore lost campaigning against that stuff two years ago. There you have it! We should know the outcome of the upcoming senatorial elections just from that experience!
