The news media is still missing the obvious: Arnold's Democratic Party opposition (Davis, Bustamante, Sanchez) had no policy proposals of their own.

They offered no hope. They had no plan to save California. All that they did was claim that Arnold was a bad man, something that millions of movie viewers would never agree with no matter how much access the Democrats had in the media.

And the Democrats have that same problem nationally. They have no new ideas and offer no hope.

Arnold didn't leave it to the gatekeepers of liberal print and news media to edit and transmit his messages to the population... he went specifically to venues that would let him talk directly to the voters themselves. That forced the print and news media to use snatches of tape and transcripts to create their "news" and they couldn't get too far off base with his statements already seen by the public.

It was a brilliant manipulation of the mass media that quite clearly was going to be working against him as a Republican. Well done, Arnold :-)

Garry South, a longtime adviser to Davis who is known for his own hardball media tactics, expressed more concern about the implications of Schwarzenegger's success.

"You guys have to come up with a new matrix for how you cover these candidates," he said.
