Serbian Wedding Party Shoots Down Plane

BELGRADE, Serbia-Montenegro -- A two-seater aircraft crashed in flames after being accidentally shot down by a wedding party in central Serbia on Sunday (12 October). It is common practice in Serbia for partygoers to fire into the air. According to eyewitness reports, the plane was hit in the left wing. As it tried to land, it struck power lines and burst into flames, seriously injuring those on board. Officials say neither had a pilot's license.

Remember that stealth bomber that went down over Serbia in the 1999 Kosovo campaign & we could never figure out what happened? Mystery solved.

Remember the story of the wedding that was bombed, and the US said the pilots reported they'd been fired upon?

How does one 'accidentally' shoot down a small aircraft. The sky is a pretty big target, and most aircraft are pretty high. This was an 'accident' much like most post-Prom pregnancies.

Wedding Party Shoots Down Plane

BELGRADE (Reuters) - A two-seater sports plane on an unauthorized joyride was apparently shot down by mistake when it flew over a Serbian wedding party where guests were firing guns into the air, local media reported Sunday.

Two men were reported to have sustained serious injuries when their aircraft burst into flames and crashed near Kraljevo, central Serbia.

"I heard shots from a wedding party which was very close to the crash site. Then I saw the plane in flames. It was shot in the left wing," witness Zoran Vukadinovic told reporters.

"A few moments later, while attempting a crash landing, it was caught in overhead power cables," he said.

Local media said neither of the men held a pilot's license.

Firing guns into the air at weddings and other celebrations is common in Serbia.

I'd say the two earned their wings the hard way by getting shot down and living to tell about it. What is it about shooting into the air at weddings over there? My redneck relatives got nothin' on these people.

I'd almost forgotten--in Afghanistan.

This was an 'accident' much like most post-Prom pregnancies.

And like most post-prom pregnancies, I suspect alcohol was involved!

Right. The press laughed at the idea that a wedding party could provide enough fire as to shoot down an airplane.

,,, to my mind, that's a politically correct aim.

Gee, I thought the PC crowd was on the left - oh yeah - then the left wing is the one to shoot at because the right wing will definitely shoot back, making it the wrong wing to shoot at, cause they're always right - er, RIGHT?

Right turn, Clyde. ;-)

You mean New Year's Eve. The night before Halloween - "Devil's Night" - is for torching abandoned houses.

We gotta stop this - if we keep it up, we'll find ourselves in the Army - you know - left, left, left-right-left, 2,3,4.

That's it - I'm outta here. :-)

Yeah, but I was there one year on New Years and there was dead silence at midnight. Here in Houston is sounds like firefights have broken out all over the city.
