Russia gave them a lot of technical help FYI, this is true of any field of endeavor. Our space program got a huge lift from Nazi technology that we recovered after wwII and we also got a lot of help from the former german scientists as well.

Henry Ford manufactured the famous Model T, which had four wheels, decades ago and Ford is still manufacturing cars with four wheels. Does it mean Ford is at the same level technically as that of many many years ago ?
