Why? The left uses economic boycotts regularly although not effectivly IMHO. Berkeley for example, boycotts anything and everything. The NAACP advocates boycotting states if they fly the confederate flag.

Jesse "The Pimp" Jackson has boycotted or threatened to boycott General Motors, Texaco, Toyotta etc, etc.

Homosexuals called for advertisers NOT to sponsor Dr. Laura.

Why should we unilaterally disarm?

Disclaimer: I am not from California and therefore have limited standing on the LA Times issue.

I just wanted to register a worry. Extra heat on the LA Times will surely be spun as right-wing backlash. Those applying the heat should be careful to stick to principles to avoid that appearance.

October surprises are ugly journalism to start with. AND, it is true that the left-wing press has advantage of numbers. And this effect is even further magnified by the anti-Constitutional Campaign Finance Reform act. All that said, it is important to protect free campaign speech by both the press itself AND buying of ads by private individuals.

A newspaper should legitimately be able to expose truth in going after a public figure, whether popular or unpopular.
