I was wracking my brain trying to think of somebody appropriate that wasn't already tied up. I suppose he could try Coulter, but she comes across terribly on the radio, and has a little problem with self restraint if there isn't a camera or a live audience. He could maybe try a pol - Gingrich would probably be a lot of fun.
Rush should have been cultivating a *regular* guest host for his audience, as Carson had with Joan Rivers and Leno. Someone the audience actually looks forward to when Rush is away. I guess he used to have that with Sean Hannity.

He shares Rush's wide scope of topics, his sensibilities and his outlook on things.
He has a fine voice and great rapport with his callers.
After all that time as Rush's call-screener, he hosted his own show for a couple of years before Rush brought him back as an assistant when he went completely deaf.
I think they should let him guest-host at least a few of the shows during these weeks. I think it would be wise if they "groomed" him as the primary guest host.
On his shows you can hear the influence. Sort of like when you see a painting "by the school of" a Renaissance Master.
