During his treatment, doctors and councilors will tell Rush that he must fight his addiction without the excuse that he is only addicted to a prescription drug.

OK, why? If the drug gets rid of the pain, why quit? Why not just stay on the drug? So he's addicted, so what? If you just maintain enough to take care of the pain and no more, I don't see what the big deal is. Yeah maybe it made him deaf, we don't really know that, but that damage has been done.

I believe that there was an actual reference to women had dinner with him and who found him uninteresting.

The same thing happened to Tom Selneck, aka Magnum PI.

Anybody remember how Rush talked about Marv Albert? How about Jerry Garcia? The people on here who are honest about how scornful Rush was can be counted on my hands.

Rush's Drug abuse is indefensible. He is an entertainer. I hope he gets well.

The issue is not whether liberals are being mean to Rush or that Rush has a history of taking people to task for drug problems while he himself succumbed to his own problem with drugs.

Rather, the issue is that Rush and his supporters in spirit must understand that his avenue to addiction may have been different than that of Jerry Garcia, Aaron Sorkin, Darrell Strawberry etc but the results are the same and the treatment and recovery will be the same.

And yes the mantra that with Rush it not the messenger but the message touted by Rush's supporters is as empty as liberals who proclaimed that it was not Clinton the man but his message.

OK, why? If the drug gets rid of the pain, why quit?

When I worked in drug treatment there would almost always be people that were addicted to prescription drugs. Some for pain, some for emotional issues but all very addicted.

During group sessions patients that were on prescription drugs would very often make the excuse that their addiction is not as bad as the coke head sitting next to them. With few exceptions those that failed to realize that their addiction was not any better than others would fail in their treatment.

All I am saying is that it is a disservice to Rush to claim that his addiction is different than the coke head in Rush's treatment center.

At first I did not believe the reports about Rush and now I must. It is heartbreaking not only to think how someone so strong could fall victim to drugs, but also to think of the pain he will go through to reach recovery.

You are cold-hearted. Rush was not a typical addict. Rush was so bad that some days he could not get 18 holes in.

Think of the pain that he must have endured between before the drug cocktail.

Yeah some folks endure crippling pain that does not permit them to get from their bed to their bath.

But, but, but Rush would be in tears between the 14th hole and the 18th or 36th hole without these drugs.

He quite simply needed them to just function.
