Ford Announces China Expansion Plan

BEIJING (Reuters) - U.S. auto giant Ford Motor Co F.N said on Friday it would boost investment by more than $1 billion over the next few years as part of ambitious expansion plans in the world's fastest-expanding major car market.

"The automotive future of China is very bright and we are participating fully in its growth. I am pleased to reaffirm our long-term plans for China," chief executive officer Bill Ford told reporters on his first trip to China.

Production at its joint venture Chongqing Changan Automobile Co Ltd 200625.SZ 000625.SZ would rise to 150,000 units from a current 20,000, as part of an expansion that would include a second car plant and engine plant. He did not give a timeframe.

Ford, a relative latecomer to the Chinese market, launched its first Fiesta car to much fanfare in January this year.

But it entered a segment already dominated by Volkswagen AG VOWG.DE , which already controls more than a third of the market, and arch-rival General Motors Corp GM.N , which commands about eight percent.

Ford and GM have been slugging it out at home but are now taking their battle to the mainland. Ford is now fleshing out its offerings in China with luxury sedans and sport-utility vehicles.

Car sales in China smashed the one million-unit barrier last year. But analysts warn that unfettered capacity expansions could foment a serious glut that will erode margins.

And after 5 years, China will have copied Ford's designs perfectly, undercutting the price by 35%, and will have no need for thir services.

Then the existing factory will be converted into a anti-US satellite missile factory when they take Taiwan, and nuke The West Coast using our technology.

At this rate, they'll have no "Carbon Dioxide Credits" to sell the EU Kyoto-heads.

This story highlights the fatal flaw in so-called "free trade."

Americans could benefit if China imported Ford automobiles built in the United States.

The way it's supposed to work is China sells us things and we sell them things. The problem is they won't buy American-made stuff. American businesses are required to teach them all of the technology, build the plants and train their employees how to manufacture the products.

My question is very simple. After every company in America has taught the Chinese how to build every American product, why would anyone need to buy anything built in America?

I cannot see why the Chinese dictatorship would then continue to share profit with the American businesses who handed them all the technology and infrastructure. What are American businesses going to do if China's government tells them to get out and never come back?

This is the same country that has threatened to nuke cities in the United States. We will be at war with these people in the future and they will use our technology to kill us.

From Wrigley gum to Cisco routers, China has been stealing patents and copyrights, then making their own versions and selling these products as their own.
According to these American companies they lost $20 billion to China alone. This is just the beginning.

It is National Suicide. Clinton's been gone for 3 years, and offshoring and outsourcing have accelerated.
Recently the last place in the U.S. making high quality magnets (used to make smart bombs) closed. Now 88% are made in Communist China.

They'll probably be selling cheap Ford clones for 35 cents on the dollar right here in the USA, with the consent and blessing, not to mention the underwriting, or the US government. I wonder what happens when the US produces absolutely nothing?

Under Chinese rules the companies who make products there must transfer teh technology and teh ownership of that technology to the Chinese government after a period of time. Ford sees the idea of a market but that market will never be there. The managers who did this should be strung up by Ford's stockholders.

One little bit of history that is often ignored should be retold every now and then.

During WWII many of the trucks ferrying German troops around were made by GM and Ford in Germany. These same companies had secret deals with the Nazis to make sure that their assets were protected during the war.

It is not hard to imagine that when the war with China comes, and it will come, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow. The Chinese will use tanks and trucks and planes built in American factories built by GM, Ford and Boeing.

It seems to me that we never learn.
