GLASSBORO, N.J. (AP) Glassboro police on Thursday dismissed a report of a hate crime said to have occurred near the Rowan University campus earlier this month as a fabrication by a student. The incident was one of three race-based crimes reported at the South Jersey college this month.
Police told the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill for Friday that a black female student filed a false police report that she was approached outside a convenience store near campus on Oct. 7. The student reported that the man had made racial slurs and used threatening language.
Police said they grew suspicious of the woman's story after inconsistencies began to emerge. When she was confronted, police said the woman admitted that key elements of her report were made up.
The incident will be turned over to university officials, police said.
University police are continuing to investigate two other reported hate incidents, one in which racial slurs were spray-painted outside a dorm room last weekend. In the other case, racial remarks were scrawled on dry erase boards hung outside students' dorms, the newspaper reported.

The incident will be turned over to university officials, police said. They should expel her from college. They won't. Typique.
To: kattracks
JUST ONCE, I would like to see one of these hoaxsters do time or suffer serious consequences for this ugliness. At LEAST expulsion.
"turned over to university officials"--translation: "swept under the rug."

Yes, she made it up, but . . . but . . . it could have happened!

(She was simply drawing attention to the atmosphere of hate in which we live. . . .)

I agree completely. Seriously.
What will really happen to her? Nothing. And those who heard the accusations but not the retraction will still believe police are racists. It's disgusting, but I'm sure she'll get away with it.

Oops... nm... misread, thought it was a policeman who supposedly said these things to her. Okay. So people will still believe there are racists everywhere. Ack! Watch out! They're under your bed!

Yes, she made it up, but . . . but . . . it could have happened! I suspect that you know that arguments like yours have been trotted out in the past in simlar cases to try to excuse the behavior.

I suspect that you know that arguments like yours have been trotted out in the past in simlar cases to try to excuse the behavior. I thought that I was mocking that absurd "argument" so obviously that it would be clear to all that I was just being sarcastic! :-)
To: Charles Henrickson
I have actually heard an attempted defense of this nature by a few talk-radio callers after a similar incident at Miami University (OH). ("dramatizing our plight" is a phrase I recall)
To: litany_of_lies
Well, "dramatizing the plight" by libel and slander is apparently not serious enough to make someone ineligible to be seriously considered for President. So there you go...

If you're from the left, it's more like a qualifiction to be president.

JUST ONCE, I would like to see one of these hoaxsters do time or suffer serious consequences for this ugliness. At LEAST expulsion. Never happen, unfortunately. The fear of being called racist outweighs everything else. And we know that would happen.

Let me guess - - this is the same girl who gave a speech to her high school social studies class about Malcolm the Tenth.
To: kattracks
This has happened numerous times all over the country. No punishment ever.

Is there a good reason why this woman's name is witheld in this report? It apppears that she is being spared the public obloquy she so richly deserves.
To: nathanbedford
We don't want to hurt the po babe's feewings by exposing her, now do we?
To: litany_of_lies
Why be surprised at the hypocrisy of staged racial incidents like this? Politicians use these type of tactics all the time.

I wish that conservatives would do something! I wish that those of us on the right would write letters and make phone calls. I wish that more would get involved, do something. Is this a hopeless wish? It seems so, sometimes. When something like this happens it should generate reams of letters to the editor. Unfortunately, it won't.

Is there a good reason why this woman's name is withheld in this report? Her name is Tawana Brawley.
In other words, she's full of feces.
