Mother Teresa relic touched to dying Florida woman

Terri Schiavo received what was supposed to be her final feeding on Wednesday, but Gov. Jeb Bush told her parents that he would again try to stop her court-approved death. Meanwhile, her parents visited after her feeding tube had been removed, accompanied by the Rev. Thaddeus Malanowski, a Roman Catholic priest who visits Mrs. Schiavo weekly, reports The New York Times. "Father Malanowski said he took a scrap from a robe worn by Mother Teresa into Mrs. Schiavo's room and touched her throat, forehead and cheek with it. Mother Teresa is to be beatified on Saturday, and Father Malanowski said that for the next step, canonization, Mother Teresa would need to assist in a miracle. 'She was very calm, very quiet, peaceful looking today,' Father Malanowski said of Mrs. Schiavo, who is plump with dark hair and eyes."

Meanwhile her father said he was not worried about his daughter's dying just yet. The feeding tube was removed once before, for 60 hours, he said, and she suffered no consequences. "If it was 10 minutes to 2 on Sunday afternoon," Mr. Schindler said, "I'd be very, very concerned. She's good for the next three to four days."

Maybe my faith isn't strong enough, but this seems like a bunch of hokum.

What worries me more is dad's seeming nonchalance. Hey dad-If nothing happens by 5PM tomorrow nothing legally CAN happen until Monday morning. She'll be at 114 hours at that point. (unless he knows something I don't about what Jeb might do over the weekend)

Mother, we pray for your intercession for Terri.

I'll second the prayer for intervention by the soul of Mother Teresa.

Do you believe that God can do all things?

for the next step, canonization, Mother Teresa would need to assist in a miracle.

I don't believe this statement is true. I don't think the first American saint, whose name inexplicably escapes me at the moment, was ever involved in a miracle.

But I'll take one at the moment, no questions asked.

I believe that God can do all things.

I don't understand why he needs a priest to take "a scrap from a robe worn by Mother Teresa into Mrs. Schiavo's room and touched her throat, forehead and cheek with it" to accomplish His will.

Any explanation of why this means anything would be welcome.

Terry's case and very LIFE, is on that 'slippery slope'. MANY people are standing before God, asking/expecting Him to intervene. What He does with Terry is what He'll do for those who follow after her. It's up to HIM what will be the outcome.

I remind Him of what He 'stands' for. What He says in His Word. Skip the world/doctors/judges/experts...go DIRECTLY to the FINAL AUTHORITY.

Ol' Black Magic...?

There's more to it than that. I want to hear what "it" is.

OK,

Of course the Creator of the universe does not need any help. But like a loving parent he wants us to help and be part of His plan.

We ask one another to pray for friend’s family etc all the time. When that happens I am not praying to you, I am asking you to pray to God for me. When we ask Mother Teresa or any holy soul in heaven to intercede, we are simply asking them to pray with us for our intention.

I'm not sure what you mean here by 'slippery slope'.

Can you clarify?

The human mind is impressed my many things, and among the most significant things it is impressed by is ritual.

Ritual is most closely associated in religious contexts but the fact is much or our lives is ritualized, and the subconcious mind often recognizes ritual and its power.

While Terry may be unconscious, her subconscious mind is awake, alert, and functioning. It comprehends this ritual, whether it is a relic from some clothing of a holy woman, or something else. This may impress her subconsious mind, which had considered 'giving up,' to press on.

This is the stuff of miracles - God, I have always thought, placed this largely untapped power within us. The subconscious not only filters reality, it defines reality - that is, what the subconsious accepts to be true, within wide latitude, often begins manifesting in 'real life.'

A bit esoteric for FR, maybe, but there is no doubt in my mind this process is real. Read books by Jose Silva,Dr John Murphy, or about Hawaiian Huna, for more on this.

Thanks for the link. I buy the Communion of saints idea completely (which includes my late father and grandmother for sure, and hopefully others I have known) and of asking for their help and/or prayers to God.

I'm struggling with why the robe scrap matters. Yes, it gets the family involved in something they can see, yes it symbolically (and hopefully really) replicates the Gospel story of the person who got well just by touching Jesus' robe, but it also seems to border on being pagan. You might also guess that I'm not big on holy water either.

I do try to take Catholicism seriously where I see a direct link to the Gospels and the Bible, so for example I believe in what I think is called Transconfiguration completely (i.e., it really IS the body and blood of Christ in communion).

So I get it, but I still don't get it.

Thank you, that helps a lot. With your screen name, remind me not to walk near your house at night.

CP, thank you too.

Are you / we're you Catholic? Is your screen name related to Religion or the world in general?

The screen name came about from the worst days of the Clinton area. Somebody in an article cited the "litany of lies' coming from the administration during that time.

Am Catholic, not as conscientious or exemplary as I should be.
