Minks Released by Activists Raise a Stink Near Seattle

SULTAN, Wash. -- He has killed 20 of them with a shotgun. Still, flesh-eating fugitives are skulking around Jeffrey Weaver's place here in the deep green foothills of the Cascade Mountains.

The escapees stink to high heaven, but that is the least of Weaver's complaints. They have slaughtered dozens of his ducks and chickens, feasted on fingerling salmon in his creek and had the temerity to bite his dog in the throat. One of them leaped out of the shadows and scratched his arm. "For the size of the animal, I have never seen such a killer," said Weaver, 48, a laid-off Boeing worker who now works as a fishing guide. "They are brutal little guys."

The fugitives are farmed-raised minks, running amok in the northern exurbs of Seattle, trying to figure out how to survive in an uncaged world. They are holdouts from a herd of 10,000 minks that on Aug. 25 was released from cages at the Roesler Brothers Fur Farm here in Sultan, a town of 4,100 people.

The whole scenario reminds me of "28 Days Later".
In that movie a couple of animal rights extremists free an infected chimp and unleash a deadly cross species virus that wipes out the worl d population.

These people have a very low grasp of reality. I hope they are caught and prosecuted.

They think they are saving the earth. They aren't even saving animals. Look at all the domestic and non-domestic animals these minks have destroyed. Pathetic!

These people think that a mink being raised captive is un-natural, but as long as the mink are "free" is doesn't matter if they eat everything in their path because it is the "natural order" of things. If my Dear Hubby lived next to that farm, and the buggers were runnin around on our property, the rusty old traps from his younger days would come out of the garage, get a good oil'n and a tidy little sum would be made!! :>)

You have to love these ALF people; they're working hard to turn the ordinarily neutral population against them. Pretty soon they won't have any place to hide.

Too bad one of the "liberators" didn't get swarmed and eaten by the "beautiful" freed minks. That would have been karmic justice...
