The unions are destroying their own industries. I've seen it in the rust belt of the NE and MW. Steel production jobs( I was in that industry for 25 years) have migrated to the South. Ala Nucor steel in Darlington, TX about 28 years ago. Beth and US Steel sneered at the mini-mills. Now they're cranking out large cross sections that Beth could never have realized. Of course a lot of that had to do with poor management. Today, the once world's largest steel producer in Beth, PA during WWII is a seven mile long of decaying oxidation of ferrous material. My daughter went to Lehigh, just across the river of Beth steel . It's a shame to see this HUGE production facility in decay. I could go on but I can't since I used to give plant tours....

The real problem: a CEO is making millions of dollars and his hired bean counters sitting around trying to get him an even bigger piece of the pie. Move it to China, pay the workers a penny on the dollar and the CEO can afford anything his greedy heart can imagine.

Auto workers in South Bend, Indiana are still wondering when Studebaker will re-open the auro plant there. The unions drove Stude to Canada, then they folded. I have absolutely NO love for the unions of the last 40 years. Been in 5 of them, Got screwed in almost every one by the flash guys in their expensive garb, who never lost a nickle when we were pushed out on strike. I once sat in the audience when we voted NOT to go out on strike, and the union called one anyway. Where unions are concerned, the JDL and I share the same slogan: "Never Again".

The unions are destroying their own industries.

Right now they seem bent on finishing off Ralphs, Vons/Pavillions/Safeway and Albertsons
here in Southern California.

Even though I'm conservative, my family has union roots...so I've decided to
honor the picket line for at least two weeks.
But the goodwill to the union workers is not a bottomless well.
I've been suprised at the pointed comments on talk radio from callers...even when
some fairly conservative hosts have expressed some support to the unions.

I suppose these callers fit my demographics...lived in "flyover country" and
saw how many folks went from welfare (or no wage) to Wal-Marts $8.50/hr in places
with almost no jobs.
Then when I relocated to Southern California, got miserable service from
the unionized clerks making 50 to 100 percent higher compensation.

The unions need to cut a deal soon. They have underestimated how many of
their long-suffering cusotmers are willing to turn on them in not too much time.
