I worked in the tech field for several years. Got tired of trying to keep up with all the changes, certifications, Dilbert's rat race, etc...
Opened a sports photography business and now am making 10 times the money (some shoots make $4,000 to $5,000 an hour, almost as much as a lawyer, hee, hee). Researching franchising the business and expect to make several hundred thousand off of this business alone in the next couple of years. The return on investment is unbelieveable. America is a great country if you grab it by the balls and run with it! Anyone can succeed with a lot of sweat off their brow and a little inspiration (the same formula is applied for genius). };O)

All of these heartless posters on FR would have been quite entertaining during the Great Depression - blaming the average citizen, who desperately wanted to work, for his/her own poverty. It's less about being heartless and more about protecting their political party, with an election coming up, and millions who have lost their jobs, it's much easier to shift the blame and attack the little people that have lost their jobs instead of focusing on those that created these epic job losses in the first place....

Amazing.....6% unemployment is now "epic" and equivalent to the Great Depression. No hyperbole that....

Have I missed something? I thought that our armed services were all volunteer.Yes, your memory seems to be missing.
If mine serves me right, thousands that died in Viet Nam did not volunteer....Unlike others, I haven't forgotten.

Now there's a leap of illogic. I give up. Guess I'll go with the earlier poster who tells me to keep silent....because he knows better.

"Her old job: $19,760/year.
Waiting tables (which she says isn't equivalent income): $12,500 base and $10K tips (very conservatively speaking) = $22,500.
Sounds like her real problem is basic math skills."
You forgot about insurance benefits. That will cost more than the difference.

"I'm sure there was a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth when the last buggy whip factory closed its doors, too."
Try a better analogy next time.
The buggy whip factories closed because of lack of demand for buggy whips, not because the existing demand was being produced overseas.

Anyone working for less pay than you is to be considered "unskilled".

I never said that.

Thats what consitutes unskilled labor...maybe not right out of your own mouth, but that is what it ends up as.

Stalled Cancun talks must start soon: WTO
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
BANGKOK, OCTOBER 19: The world trade body must restart the stalled Cancun talks to liberalise global trade and reach a new deal to liberalise global commerce such that member nations do not miss out on economic opportunities, WTO director general Supachai Panitchpakdi said.
It is now time to craft a concrete trade pact to benefit both the rich and the poor, he told a meeting of CEOs being held on the sidelines of the annual Apec summit. What we need is to translate the political will into terms of action, he told over 500 executives of top world corporations who have paid $3,000 per head to attend the Apec CEO conference.
The two-day summit of world leaders begins here on Monday. I call it flexibility, compromise or give and take. We need an approach of give and take to take this round to an end, he added.
Meanwhile Chinese President Hu Jintao has defended his countrys policy of keeping its currency low against the dollar, saying it serves Beijings economic performance and conformed to the requirements of economic development in the Asia Pacific region and the whole world.

Now there's a leap of illogic.Do you think the percentage of those out of work, listed as 6% is accurate? Do you think the fedgov allowing millions of illegals in country on a routine basis is right, considering a good percentage of these millions of unemployed Americans have limited skills, like many Americans that are entering the job market with little or no skills?
Seems to me that there is something terribly wrong with this picture.....

"Thats (sic) what consitutes unskilled labor...maybe not right out of your own mouth, but that is what it ends up as."What is the "thats" you are referring to? You'll have to give me a clue as to what you are talking about - and the connection to anything I've posted.

On second thought....don't bother....this entire threads is not making sense. In fact, it appears to be about something other than the article. As is often the case around here when the REAL subject folks want to discuss is their agenda.
Never mind.

Get ready to pay higher taxes to cover the new welfare programs these formerly employed Americans will demand. Oh we've already got those welfare programs here in NC. Something to the effect of $3500 to over 4000 workers out at Pillowtex. And some sort of salary match for two years!!
But on the bright side of things, Senator Elizabeth Dole (R) has promised in a speech (imagine that a speech of all places where one can't be held to anything) to introduce some sort of protection for jobs in NC against Chinese interests. Mind you all the textile jobs are nearly gone, her new stance is exactly opposite of what she ran on in 2000 for President (which makes her even more believable...), she's working with the Democrats to chase the tobacco jobs out of state, but it's the thought that counts right? Boy, I sure do like this compassionate 'conservatism'
