Cole contends that while many Americans say they are willing to give up some liberties to increase security, the government has ***largely sacrificed only the liberties of foreign nationals and immigrants****
I fail to see the "double" standard. He just does not mention the "illegal" (or criminal) phrase before immigrants, and , well, "foreign national" speaks for itself.

Freepers inclined to scoff at this guy's point might want to consider 18 USC 242:
Sec. 242. - Deprivation of rights under color of law
Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.

If we accept the premise that our Constitutional rights are only for citizens, I had better get a passport to prove my citizenship. I was born and raised right here in the USA, but I have nothing to carry proving my citizenship.
Maybe this is a backdoor push to make a national ID card necessary?
Papers please?

Guess this fellow Cole forgot that the detainees have more religious freedom now and away from the normal islamic fanatic vitriol, as well as more food and proper shelter, than these characters ever had in their own country.

Make war on the United States or support those who make war upon the the United States and then enlist the ACLU to defend your sorry ass but don't expect me or most patriots to give a flying f*** about you or any "rights" you believe are yours.

What about this?
"....all persons born in the United States and NOT SUBJECT TO ANY FOREIGN POWER,..."
We can ill afford to trust those who would use our freedoms to TERRORIZE us in the name of allah.
The citizens of the USA have the RIGHT to reserve final judgement on this - not those who would help the enemy, or apologize for the enemy.
We have a RIGHT to be protected by our government - if that is at the cost of a few "Foreign Nationals" or "illegal criminal, aliens" - too effing bad.

FFR: Has the government operated with a "double standard" since September 11, 2001, that is, denying immigrants the civil liberties and constitutional protections that citizens enjoy? This softball reminds me of interviewers' questions to ahtletes after big wins. "Andy, tell us how important this win was to you.... Andy, how did this win make you feel?"
Only citizens are supposed to enjoy civil liberties and rights. Heck, that's right in the definition of "civil rights." (As Casey would say, "You could look it up.") This has nothing to do with security; it's the de facto granting to foreigners of non-existent civil rights, which has been a scandal.

"Sec. 242. - Deprivation of rights ... on account of such person being an alien"
Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Law
"2) a foreign-born resident who has not been naturalized and is still a subject or citizen of a foreign country
Example: illegal 2aliens
Example: an 2alien admitted to the United States for permanent residence -- U.S. Code"

My favorite part is we citizens can carry over a million dollars to our heirs without taxation.
Non-citizens think that is the case with them, but after some small number like $20,000, the rest of the estate is taxed at around 50%.
something about that seems right to me.

Only citizens are supposed to enjoy civil liberties and rights. Not in the United States of Amercia, which was founded on the following premise:
... that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights...

>An expert on immigration law argues that the '
double standard' for foreigners and U.S. citizens serves neither liberty nor security.
Let's make everyone
on the Earth a citizen
of the US! Then
they get all the rights
of any citizen. (And
they all pay taxes!)
