I have never, not once, not a single time, bought anything from a telemarketer, nor do I have any intention of ever doing so. It's not the way I do business. I would think they would be better off not wasting time and effort on me and people just like me.
And, BTW, yes, I am angry. I am pissed. The telemarketers brought this on themselves. They have done everything possible to short-circuit and end-run every feasible free-market solution. Caller ID? They don't show the origin of their call. The Zapper? They found a way around that. I am now irrational about this topic, and if they all go out of business tomorrow it'll be too late for me.
As for the people themselves, well, I'm sorry about that, but people all over the country doing things a lot more noble than telemarketing lose their jobs everyday. They go out and find new ones.
Do you stop your junk mail from the Post Office? I dought it. Did the federal government declare all you have to do to stop junk mail is to contact the Post Office? No, they require that you, the individual, tell the sender you don't want their advertisments. Who does that? I bet almost no one.
Actually, I have contacted the direct marketers assn to get off their junk mail list. Just did this recently, so I haven't seen any change. In the interim, at least the Post Office has large blue bins where I can throw that away before I ever leave the building. If direct mail marketers started delivering door-to-door interrupting my dinner, waking me up, and so forth, they'd incur the same wrath.
Nothing but "feel good" legislation focused on a false perception by a minority of people.
Actually, sad to say, but this has done more to "promote the general welfare" around my house than anything the government has done in a long, long time.
Plus, if individuals like yourself have philosophical differences with the legislation, you don't have to participate. Live it up.
If a business insists on advertising by stealing my private property, than damn straight I want it to fail.
