I have no problem with you not getting annoying calls. I don't understand the over reach of federal government involvement.

They don't bother me. I don't answer them. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I get a nice charity I can support. Sometimes it's just MCI and I politely say, "no thanks" and hang up.

I don't understand why a simple phone call "pisses you off so much". Are you a slave to the ring of the phone? Are you so angry you wish some businesses fail because they might not be able to afford other forms of advertising? Do you stop your junk mail from the Post Office? I dought it. Did the federal government declare all you have to do to stop junk mail is to contact the Post Office? No, they require that you, the individual, tell the sender you don't want their advertisments. Who does that? I bet almost no one.

So why, after decades of the Post Office, is there not a "Do Not Mail" list controlled by the federal government which also runs the Post Office? Wouldn't it be super easy for them to just remove you from the mailing lists of the senders like they are doing with phone numbers (supposedly)?

And the biggest reason the reporting now is "Hey, I signed up for the Do Not Call list and I'm still getting calls...why?" is that most reporters and all the people who love this "list" don't know the exceptions. Got a checking account? Banks and financial institutions you use are exempt. Use electricity? Public utility companins and subsidiaries (gas heaters, siding, storm windows, etc) are exempt.

Nothing but "feel good" legislation focused on a false perception by a minority of people.

I have never, not once, not a single time, bought anything from a telemarketer, nor do I have any intention of ever doing so. It's not the way I do business. I would think they would be better off not wasting time and effort on me and people just like me.

And, BTW, yes, I am angry. I am pissed. The telemarketers brought this on themselves. They have done everything possible to short-circuit and end-run every feasible free-market solution. Caller ID? They don't show the origin of their call. The Zapper? They found a way around that. I am now irrational about this topic, and if they all go out of business tomorrow it'll be too late for me.

As for the people themselves, well, I'm sorry about that, but people all over the country doing things a lot more noble than telemarketing lose their jobs everyday. They go out and find new ones.

Actually, I have contacted the direct marketers assn to get off their junk mail list. Just did this recently, so I haven't seen any change. In the interim, at least the Post Office has large blue bins where I can throw that away before I ever leave the building. If direct mail marketers started delivering door-to-door interrupting my dinner, waking me up, and so forth, they'd incur the same wrath.

Actually, sad to say, but this has done more to "promote the general welfare" around my house than anything the government has done in a long, long time.

Plus, if individuals like yourself have philosophical differences with the legislation, you don't have to participate. Live it up.

If a business insists on advertising by stealing my private property, than damn straight I want it to fail.
