Edited on 04/13/2004 1:41:17 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

The questions I posed to combatant commanders this week were: Are we winning or losing the Global War on Terror? Is DoD changing fast enough to deal with the new 21st century security environment? Can a big institution change fast enough? Is the USG changing fast enough?

This guy gets it!

That's what I love about Rumsfeld. He never assumes that by doing the same old same old we are winning. This guy will be responsible for our victory when it comes to pass simply because he refuses to sit on his laurels.

The contrast with a Robert MacNamara could not be more striking.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Is this memo authentic? If so, we can all sleep easier for having a guy at the helm who is asking the right questions.

Agreed. Why some call for him to resign is sheer lunacy, or just outright liberalism. The DoD has needed major reform for years, and many are resistant to change within the system.

However, why the DoD has been doing the State Deprtment's jobs for them is beyond me.

Caught my eye, three bits about madrassas:

Are we capturing, killing or deterring and dissuading more terrorists every day than the madrassas and the radical clerics are recruiting, training and deploying against us?

How do we stop those who are financing the radical madrassa schools?

Should we create a private foundation to entice radical madradssas to a more moderate course? -Donald Rumsfeld

yes, but all I heard on spin radio this morning was how Rummy says that we are not doing as well as reported in both Afganistan and Iraq. Leave it to the left-leaning press.

If he's your trusted guy, then
have the sense not to put words
in his mouth. If a reporter asked
Rummy "are you calling the WOT to
date a phoney war", he would slap
them silly(verbally, of course).
