"At the risk of sounding really, really stupid, I'm going to ask this question: Since adultery is a cause for divorce, why can't a divorce be granted to Terri? Is that absolutely impossible? He certainly can't deny the adultery."

At the risk of also sounding stupid, if Terri cannot be granted a legal divorce, why can't the Catholic church grant her an annulment? Sure, it would not be legally binding, but it would hold sway in public opinion and consequently with the FL state legislature. I am not Catholic so I know nothing of the rules toward granting an annulment.
What do y'all think?

A Catholic annulment wouldn't help Terri at all. It is a judgement on the Sacramental nature of the marriage (in this case, LACK thereof). It has no legal weight. In addition, most dioceses require that the petitioner first be legally divorced.

I don't know the rules either, but that sounds like a better route to go than the divorce.
