Reilly said the church is firmly against gay marriage and civil unions, but believes that the state should provide gay couples with certain economic and social benefits, including bereavement and hospital visitation rights.

This sounds reasonable to me.

This could be reasonable or unreasonable. The paraphrase is too ambiguous, perhaps deliberately so. Unless I see words between quotation marks, I'll reserve judgement.

As soon as you are Catholic, it may relevantly offend you but not until. Even then, the only opinion that counts is that of the pope.

You have this bad habit of getting beyond yourself and giving others orders in an arrogant manner. Buzz off.

If the dying gay does not renounce his life as errant, etc., you would offer him the "compassion" of some Kumbaya "there, there, poor baby!" and an eternity in hell. If you really believe in God, really believe in heaven and really believe in hell, all of which Catholics are required to believe, you will understand that you are offering false compassion.

The issue of this thread is that a very bad excuse for a Catholic bishop, Daniel Reilly of Worcester, in his very last days as bishop is taking one last harpoon in hand against the Roman Catholic Church which has made the obvious mistake of entrusting him with authority which he has abused for years before this incident. What the Massachusetts state legislature may do to further besmirch the reputation of Massachusetts is the business of Massachusetts and its voters. What Reilly does in his capacity as a sorry excuse for a Catholic bishop is the business of Catholics.

You may think that I despise you or something for intruding as a non-Catholic on Catholic subjects. Nothing of the sort. You are, according to your own lights, a principled person and a persistent one in defense of your own principles. Nonetheless, your principles are most certainly not Catholic principles. In the context of Catholic arguments, your opinions, whether secular or those of some other religion, are simply not relevant.

This latest post may betray nothing more than mere disagreement with Catholicism. I tend to think it more likely that the post betrays a lack of understanding of Catholicism. I may be wrong as to that.

Thankfully Ft Worth has a refuge in the parish St Mary the Virgin that Catholics can go to experience the fullness of faith. As for this bishop, he is of retirement age now thankfully, and he is a typical Abp Jean Jadot style bishop, and the statement from the Boston Archdiocese did not come from Abp. O Malley himself, but a underling t hat very well could have been taken out of context.

As for sinkspur, he seems to be quite, whats the word for it, lacking in knowledge of Catholic church teachings, as was evident on the debate we had a couple of weeks back on Rerum Novarum.

Hugh Hefner would be so proud!

Back to reality, what the right of privacy in the Constitution protects first and foremost is one's ight to be secure in one's person, papers and effects from unwarranted governmental search and seizure. Not one word as to abortion or lavender cannoodling, not one.

Your thinking on this is fuzzy.

Doubled and redoubled, dear. Let us know when you become Catholic and then your opinions as to the Church may matter.

Since Torie isint a Catholic, there is no hypocracy involved in his views, one can not expect non Catholics to follow church teachings, its when people claim to be Catholics that there are issues of hypocracy.

Moral superiority is not your strong suit, sara. Preach to somebody else.

But, Moral Relativism seems to be yours, Deacon!

Today someone released a poll indicating that 92% of Americans expect to go directly to Heaven on their death. The others did not believe in life-after, thought they would return as a different life-form, etc., etc.

Relevant? Yup.

Torie and Sinky represent, mutatis mutandis, those who are so "nice" that they can't understand eschatology--nor the direct, clear, and foreboding warnings of Christ and His Mother that there would be many, many, many souls lost.

In the case of Mary, she specifically indicated that it was sins against the 6th/9th which would load up the shores of hell.

Being "nice" doesn't cut it. One may be civil, but still tell someone they are in DEEP doo-doo; and it's far more charitable to make that announcement at the risk of 'losing' a friend.

Those who are not pleased with certain postings on this thread may wish to concentrate their minds once a day on the Four Last Things, which still are Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell.

As far as I know, Torie isint a Catholic, at least based the posts I have read. Again if a non Catholic holds views that are not in line with chruch teachings, thats one thing, it is quite another when ordained clergy hold views that are out of line with chruch teaching, and that is why I said in a thread a few days ago, unless I know a parish is solidly orthodox, then I am not so sure that technically converting to the church will in reality bring people closer to the faith, especially in the typical suburban mega-parish' that push "peace & justice", mercy(without sacrafice).

PS To others who say I am a SSPXer, how many SSPXers attend a Novus Ordo mostly in English?

sins against the 6th/9th

?????

By the way, I am in that elite 8% who don't think they are going to heaven. I think I will be rendered into dust.

I think Torie is an agnostic IIRC.

JNB, I haven't read this entire thread but I know you are not SSPX. You've stated your position clearly on other threads. I cannot speak for the SSPX but I strongly doubt any of them attend a N.O. if they have an alternative.

Do you want the legitimate children of these queers denied their property rights in favor of one of the many sex partners the sodomites choose?

Wow. If you can convince anyone you follow Christ's teachings, then I'd bet they believe there's a bunch of Richard Simmons Jrs running around.
