Everybody in Congress claims to be worried about the paucity of new jobs, so we can only assume they are all delighted with Interior Secretary Gale Norton's decision late last week to help create some, specifically in the U.S. mining industry.

I'm quite certain that FReepers will support getting government off the miners' backs. Funny how they don't see how government is strangling manufacturing in the US.

When Congress refused Clinton Administration requests to change the Mining Law, Mr. Leshy decided to rewrite the law himself. Interior's latest ruling returns to the original intent...

Isn't it interesting that a bureaucrat uses a mythical power to interperate the original intent of the Constitution, but none of the courts use original intent unless it fits the judges' liberal agenda?

If the current admin just overturned EVERYTHING done by the i42 mob, we'd be a lot better off.

IMHO, this "above-the-law" attitude exposed the criminal core of the Clinton Administration.

This took 3 years to figure out?

Seems like Sec Norton would have been told about this by lobbyists on her first day in office.

The number of metal mining jobs dropped 41%, to 29,000 today from 50,000 in 1997.

Further evidence that, in the areas they could control, the Clinton admin was not business/jobs friendly. Jobs always lost out to enviro-extremists and trial lawyers. Bankrupting 85 companies over asbestos is a shining example. Lieberman should be worried his Dems have become anti-business.

For all those slobbering fools that say 'The LAW is the LAW and we must obey the LAW!' The law is the law only until the bureaucracy decides it means something else.
