GOP Push for Amendment Is Dilemma for Bush
Republican lawmakers and conservative activists are making plans to turn gay marriage into a major issue in next year's elections, with some Christian groups saying that banning same-sex unions is a higher immediate priority for them than restricting abortion.
Party strategists said the issue could be a bonanza for mobilizing conservatives to fund campaigns and turn out to vote, particularly in the South. Conservative groups said they plan to challenge candidates to sign a pledge in support of a constitutional amendment precluding gay marriage, then use the results -- along with votes Republicans hope to force in the House and Senate -- as a wedge against Democrats.

When, O Lord, will some Republican tell the public that the reason for mariage conferring benefits on the married is to encourage traditional two parent families.
History is full of examples of why the two parent family produced better acculturated children than any other "family". Lest there be any doubt, I am not suggesting that a 'Adam & Steve' relationship is equivalent to marriage between a man and a woman.
Biology does impose limitations, like it or not. Doubt this? Ask a late thirties/early uglies female about the reality of biological limitations. Stand back, way back, when you do ask.

some Christian groups saying that banning same-sex unions is a higher immediate priority for them than restricting abortion. Any Christian group that says that has their priorities way out of whack.

If you read the article, you will find that the whole thing is spam. The only name mentioned is Dobson. The whole article is make-weight non-news, signifying nothing.

Its not a dilemma. If the Democrats can't be counted to say marriage is one man and one woman, guess who loses? The public still backs marriage even in Left Coast states like California. I'd love to see the politicians have to take a stand.
