I believe BCE stands for *before common era*. AD stands for anno domini which is Latin for after death. I think.Yes, BCE is "Before the Common Era" but AD is Latin for "Year of the Lord." However, that has been PC-ed to CE, "Common Era."

They can use BCE for all I care, but unless they change the dating system, they still have the Common Era defined through Christ's arrival.
