There are a couple of other editorials suggesting the same thing. I will provide the links when I get back.

The other editorials are the same op-ed published in the Jerusalem Post and Korean Herald.

"Creative and innovative thinking is needed about Iraq; otherwise todays mayhem will continue and worsen."
If leaving Iraq divided is plausible then this could been considered: Syria (majority Sunni) might temporarily govern the western Sunni of Iraq. Iran (majority Shiite) might temporarily govern the southeastern Shiite region of Iraq. An independent Kurdish nation could be established in the north.
The best part is American soldiers could come home relatively quickly.

Much common sense in this article. Frankly, it marries common sense with idealism.
Personally, I do not believe that "Democracy," as it is being touted, will work even in the three States envisioned by the writer. But his proposal would at least go some way towards averting some of the crueler manifestations that are usually associated with the imposition of "Democracy" in the Third World. I bump this as a plea against those cruel manifestations of disasterous folly.
