Strangers hugged, horns honked and one-time disbelievers sang "We are the champions" Saturday night after the Florida Marlins beat the New York Yankees 2-0 to win baseball's World Series championship.

The celebrating began after Marlins ace Josh Beckett tagged the Yankees' Jorge Posada for the final out and capped off one of the most stirring comeback seasons in baseball history.

This posting is not acceptable for Free Republic.

It has nothing whatsoever about Terri Schiavo.

You should know better than to post this.

My wife and I partied all day yesterday in Miami and weren't out for the celebration, but I couldn't be happier for the Marlins, and also the local economy. Maybe this time around they won't completely dismantle the team and build up a large, true "loyal" following for next year.

An excellent addition to the Texas Rangers history books.

This time we traded a World Series MVP batter and catcher!

We are going to the world series one player at a time!.

Nobodys a bigger Marlins fan than me, but morons were still blowing horns and carrying on four hours after the win.

I enjoyed the massive spontaneous fireworks that were going off all over the place, the dancing in the streets, the low rider bouncing up and down with the "YUCK FANKEES" painted on the windshield, but I never thought the celebration would last until dawn

At least they didn't set anything on fire.

"Pudge deserved this World Series ring"

He certainly did.

He took less money to go the Fish, and he played like a champion throughout. His stewardship of a very young rotation, his peerless defensive skills and his reliable bat were key components to this title run.

I will never forget the image of his collision at the plate with JT Snow [a former college football player] to end the series with San Francisco. He held on to the ball, and held his teams's destiny in his hands.

Congratulations to a great player and team.

I most certainly agree. He has done a great job. He has managed to stay out of trouble and do the hardest job in baseball for a long time now.
I believe his numbers will make a case for him to be the greatest catcher in history.
He has my respect and I love the young marlins. I wish them a long run.
The lipstick makes me think of magic and isiah kissing at center court.
