Cannot help you with San Diego info, I am located in Rancho Cucamonga far north of you. We are near to where the first major fire started.

Dont know what fire investigators found to suspect 'Arson Test' fires with the first two fires in San Bernadino County. Also dont know exactly what 'arson test fire' means. Just reporting what I was told. One can speculate however, if an arsonist was planning on setting fires all over southern cal, the first few would be test fires to check conditions and check out the logistics of setting the fire. Whoever they are, they may be relatively new at this.

Crest is south of Hwy 8, just east of El Cajon. So far the fire hasn't crossed over Hwy 8!

I have to agree about the arson. I've lived through some horrendous fire seasons in heavily forested New Mexico, and you see some small fires starting up near larger ones, but the distances involved here are too great. It may have started with enviros, but I'd wager now that it's gangbangers, idiots, and the "perhaps I can get a free TV in the confusion" crowd.

Hi, there!

Isn't it interesting how we go through this every year and every year it all sounds so new? I was telling another freeper earlier in the week (when they predicted the offshore winds) that we would have some big fires. My 53rd season of this. LOL

How are you holding up down your way? Getting a little smoke? LOL ;-)

I'm still listening to http://www.live365.com/stations/kb6jag relayed scanner. They're discussing preparations for something up there which they expect to explode, and which is surrounded by dry eucalyptus.

URGENT: SD Fire still asking off duty firefighter to report to 28 if you have your gear, if not, go to your station to gear up. They have been asking for this for about an hour.

Otay Lakes fire must be a part of the Otay wilderness fire that started this morning. That one is growing quickly! It's so hard to keep track of all these fires!

Dry eucalytptus is like a bomb, that was part of the problem when the Laguna fire headed north along PCH years ago. They just blow up and the fire jumps from tree to tree and then house to house.

Get your vehicles loaded and ready to go as I noted in an earlier post. Baby pictures, photo albums and vital documents need to be in the trunk or back of an SUV. Have a day's water and food with blankets or light sleeping bags.

Before you leave shut every door in your home. Shut doors help to contain fires unless there is a flameout.

Don't wait until the last minute.

Keep us posted, and our prayers are with all of you.

Time to start attending your city council meetings and yelling like mad at the environmental whackos and shutting them down. They are responsible for this lack of brush removal.

Go online to KGTV channel 10, KUSI channel 9/51 - I think you may also find KFMB 8 and FOX6 - I think some of them have net streaming.

Maybe freepers who have homes on the coast/beaches in the SD area can offer to shelter other Freepers in harms way until this fire storm is over.

You could exchange freep mail with those in harms way and offer them an over night slumber party.

Just took this shot looking east to Crest. Crest would be to the top right of the picture. Smoke is thick from the fire in Alpine. With my respitory problems I could barely breathe. Thanks for your thoughts.

This is so scary. My husband and I have packed our important things, JUST IN CASE. I can't believe Clairemont Mesa Blvd. is going up in smoke. Crossing over to Mercury! I used to work on Ronson Ct. and it's all industrial. This is just the most horrible thing I've witnessed since I moved here.
