Considering how it looked live and in-person last night, I'm not surprised. We went over to a park over in Claremont; I'm wondering now if it still exists. It looks like it was in the same neighborhood as those homes. :(

If I can please bother you,

Where is Chino Hills in all these fires? Read a report yesterday that the football game was postponed because of smoke.

Have relatives there & haven't been able to get a hold of them yesterday or today. Woefully ignorant of CA in general & can't find a map with deatails of the areas that you're giving fire details for. I do know that Chino Hills is near San Bernardino if not in San Bernardino County.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Prayers up for all freepers in the fire areas & all their loved ones worrying about them.

Almost 12 miles south of San Dimas, so approximately 20 miles south-southwest of Claremont (the Grand Prix fire). It's completely and totally safe right now - the fire would have to go west through La Verne and San Dimas, then south through parts of Pomona and Chino to get to it. Ain't gonna happen, especially as the fire is essentially out in Claremont right now.

Oh - and one other note: Chino Hills is nowhere near San Bernardino. They're not even within sight range of the mass fires above Devore, or the fires well to their south in the Temecula/Riverside county areas (those're more like 50 miles away from 'em).

Chino Hills is south of the LaVerne / Claremont fire. In realation to the "Old Fire" in San Bernardino and the Grand Prix fire, Chino Hills is South and West. They are in the thick of the smoke but not the flames. However, if things get worse, they are in a high fire area.

Ironically, MapQuest puts Claremont in the wrong place. Claremont should be shown on that map as being along the 210 freeway between San Dimas and Rancho Cucamonga... but they put it between San Dimas and Pomona. That's waaaay off.

Then again, MapQuest has a tendency to be horribly wrong on this region of SoCal.

Chino Hills to:
San Bernardino: 35.6 miles
Fontana: 25 miles
Rancho Cucamonga: 19 miles
Claremont: 12 miles

And yes, within seeing distance, if the smoke isn't too thick.

Not currently, I'm afraid - at least, not from my end. The last I heard, fires were burning towards Lake Arrowhead, but to my knowledge, they haven't gotten there yet. Have heard virtually nothing about Blue Jay.

However, that is one of the major fire regions being worked right now, so I'm sure there will be further news as the night goes on.

You get to Claremont off the 10 at Indian Hill, too.

Those estimates seem off, at least based off of personal driving distance of that area and the knowledge of the roads and freeways 'round here. But hey, I don't exactly pay attention to distance as the crow flies when driving - that doesn't work well in this area. :)

I can tell you that Chino Hills is off of the 91 freeway, well south-southwest of the fire zone, which is along the 210 freeway, and that it is /not/ in visual range, as the Grand Prix fire cannot be seen at all anywhere west of Rancho Cucamonga at this point.

*grin* You get to Montclair off the 10 freeway at Indian Hill, not Claremont. But I've been known to get those two cities mixed up a lot.
