Good article. Bump for later.

We have gone beyond the point of no return. American no longer exists. In its place we have a Soviet Union Lite. Nope, America will be fine and the future is looking good. We just have to wait another ~20 years until the worst generation in American History the baby boomers age and gets the hell out of power and/or dies off. Though it will probably take another 20 years after that to fix the mess they will leave behind.

Since you are new here, (a troll maybe?) you probably don't realize that those free speech champions at the Post don't like their articles posted here. In fact, they sued Free Republic for allowing it. But thanks for letting us know what a bunch of dopes we are for watching Fox.

Do us all a favor and STOP USING ALL THOSE CAPITAL LETTERS. They make me nervous."
I'll try to be more careful. :)

I've been at this for 40 years. It's all been downhill. We've now evolved to where a 'conservative' is defined as someone who wants government to help people. That's not conservatism. That's not the freedom the Founders prescribed in the Constitution.
It's Marxism. America has become Societ Union Lite.

Fouty years? No, its been eighty years since the New Deal started. It took the left less than a decade to get the Supreme Court to start mangling the commerce clause. From there, it has been steadily downhill.
Our first halting steps back to sanity were in the 80's. Unfortunately, every time we have had a conservative president, they have had to spend their political capital on cleaning up world problems created by the left. If you weren't an adult in 1980, you have no idea how badly our situation vis-a-vis the communists had deteriorated under just four years of Jimmy Carter. So a lot of the domestic problems created by the left have remained intact--our nation's survival came first.
I am still hopeful that we will someday be able to reverse the tide. After all, high tide eventually goes out. And, for me, I'm comfy sitting sitting on the beach ordering back the tide. (So it didn't work so well for King Canute. But then, maybe he didn't work at it long enough.)

You're right, I had read about the lawsuit some time ago, but, alas, I forgot. Thanks for the reminder.

Dunno what people you listen to, but most conservatives I know want to go back to limited government. I will grant that there are some RINO's in office who are "Marxist Lite"... but no one's calling them "conservative" either. And besides, they -are- still preferable to the Democrats, who can no longer be defined as anything but "Marxist Heavy".

Harold Myerson has distinguished himself as a condescending tool. I'm quite certain that if I could select as unscientific an example as possible, I could administer an IQ test that would make the readers of The Harvard Crimson look like a sub-literate tribe of gibbons. Wait a minute, Brit Hume is already accomplishing that quite nicely every weekday at 5pm.

He made Rockafeller look like an idiot. It was great. That's priceless! Wish I'd seen it. Rockefeller IS a lying idiot.

"The chairman of the Republican Party and George Bush."
Eh - I can agree that Bush is not the paragon of fiscal conservatism, heh, but I don't -agree- with that part of his platform, and most conservatives I know don't either, we are simply willing to tolerate it because he is dead-on right about other matters such as security and social issues. No conservative I know is particularly happy about the prescription drug care plan, but I dunno that I'd go as far as calling him Marxist. To be honest, I think the PDP is likely to self-destruct - and maybe that's the point.
I know what you refer to about the RNC Chairman's remarks that the age of limited-government conservatism is dead. I think he was wrong, and I think he got roasted alive by the rest of the party for it. In fact, didn't he even apologize for it? Not sure. Point is, while you may be right about REPUBLICANS, I don't think you are right about the conservative population.
What I would hope to see is the death of the Democratic party, followed by a split in the Republican party that broke down as Libertarians/South Park Republicans vs. Conservative Republicans. Then at least we could have a real dialogue where the issues were at least mostly discussed from a mostly common understanding of history, instead of the total non-dialogue we currently have between two groups of people who can't even agree on what color the sky is at any given moment.

Nice post!

I was watching a Fox interview a few weeks ago when Senator Rockafeller was on criticizing Bush for calling Iraq an imminent threat. Tony Snow first played Bush's speech where he clearly said Iraq wasn't an imminent threat then a speech by the Senator where he called Iraq an imminent threat. He made Rockafeller look like an idiot. It was great. That kind of coverage is why people are turning to Fox. The Senator would never have been called on his lies on the networks or CNNThat's classic! How did Rockefeller respond???
